Master Raider - Man-eating Dhutanga is the first main boss, who you have to defeat in order to progress to the next stages of the game. It also introduces a new mechanic: Temper. It is located in the Lightzen Temple. This page of the Wuchang Fallen Feathers guide explains the boss's moves and his most important features in a nutshell, along with how to fight this opponent. You will also learn what rewards you will receive for killing him.

Master Raider - Man-eating Dhutanga in a nutshell

  1. The boss's attacks can be blocked with a weapon, e.g., an axe (provided you have this ability equipped on the weapon).
  2. Dhutanga is a humanoid opponent, which makes it easier to interrupt his attacks with your own. Additionally, you can get to him from behind and deal damage there, which will fill the Obliterate bar faster.
  3. The enemy often sticks his weapon into the ground. When you notice this, do not stand close to it, because after a while, the boss will pull it out, and a small explosion will follow in that spot.
  4. His attacks can be easily avoided and gain you Skyborn Might. This allows you to strengthen your blows or use weapon or magic techniques.
  5. This boss fight is divided into two phases; in the second one, Dhutanga receives a fire buff and new attacks. Therefore, it is worth wearing armor that provides the best protection against this element.
  6. Moreover, in the second phase, the boss repeats most of his attacks from the first phase; however, he does that much faster, so you have to get used to this change of pace.

Master Raider - Man-eating Dhutanga's attacks

  1. Weapon charge - it's a fairly well-signaled attack. The boss holds his spear out in front of him, with his both hands, and runs forward towards the player. After a moment, he performs a swing. It is recommended to move away or dodge to the side.
  2. Stomp - the boss sticks a weapon into the ground, then raises his leg and stomps. It's a medium area attack, and if you spot it, it's best to back away unless you're sure when to dodge (when the boss's foot touches the ground).
  1. Air attack - after hitting the ground with the lower part of the weapon, the boss may try to jump. He'll attack you upon landing. It's a perfect moment to get behind him.
  2. Burying the spear - after turning his torso, the boss will stick the spear into the ground, holding it with both hands. He will pull it out shortly to launch a small area attack.
  3. Triple attack series - the boss will start swinging his weapon: first he will strike horizontally, then in a straight line. When the weapon lands in the ground, he will pull it out after a moment, creating a small explosion.
  1. Wind - the boss will turn around and then swing his weapon, creating two winds. The first one will cover a short distance, while the second one - a significantly longer one.
  2. Explosion - at the start of the second phase, when the boss's health drops below 50%, he will start to groan. He will raise his arm and leg up, and when they fall down (the leg touches the ground), a fire explosion will follow.
  1. Fire breathing - if you notice fire coming out of Master Raider's face, he will attack you with a blast of fire shortly.
  2. Shattering a fireball - the boss can hold a fireball in his hand, which he will then throw into the air and shatter with his weapon. This will be followed by an explosion in a medium area.

How to fight Master Raider - Man-eating Dhutanga?

Master Raider can be dangerous mainly when he stomps his foot. In the heat of battle, you might not even notice it. In addition, his blows often obstruct your view of the arena, which is completely covered in crops. Therefore, instead of attacking in full sequences, sometimes stop your attacks and look closely to see if the boss is about to stomp his foot on the ground.

Let him perform his attacks and dodge them at the perfect moment, i.e. exactly when the attack would hit you. Thanks to this, you will gain Skyborn Might, which means you will be able to improve your attacks, weapon techniques, or use spells. Let him jump, because then he will expose his back to you for a while, which will allow you to deal more damage and fill the Obliterate bar. Repeat this tactics when the boss buries his weapon in the ground. Then, the only sensible option is to get behind him.

Swift attacks, which you can perform by sacrificing Skyborn Might and changing weapons, are a very good tactic against this opponent, as he will then often be unable to take the initiative and attack you.

In the second phase, change the pace of your dodging a bit, as his attack chains will speed up significantly. Strong, charged attacks, however, should halt his attempts to dominate this fight. An Axe and a Long Sword will work well here.
