Mistress of the Night - Huang Yan is a main boss located at Snowfall Palace, in the Cloudspire region. The battle is unusual, as the boss mostly fights at a distance and teleports frequently. If you don't know how to defeat her, check our guide to Wuchang Fallen Feathers.

Mistress of the Night - Huang Yan in a nutshell

  1. The Mistress of the Night mainly fights with magic. High resistance to magical damage is advisable.
  2. The boss can inflict Frostbite and Corruption. Equip armor that'll protect you against those statuses.
  3. Since the Mistress of the Night frequently moves around the area, you could use some ranged spells, such as the Feathering spell Echo of Soulwood. The Astral Blade, a spell-enhancing sword, is a good weapon choice in this battle. If you choose to fight her this way, use Bone Needle - Arcane to further increase your magic damage.
  4. If you'd rather stick with a melee build, you'll need to strike her back with charged attacks. Each such hit will stun the boss, letting you Obliterate her.
  5. When the boss creates purple projectiles, move away from her. If you're too close they'll all hit you, possibly killing you instantly.

Mistress of the Night - Huang Yan's attacks

  1. Three kick combo - this is how she opens the fight. Sometimes she'll also use it when she's very far away. After creating an ice cloud, she will teleport you and kick you three times, with the first hit being a spin kick. The final kick causes a small explosion when she stomps down.
  1. Spheres of destruction - the Mistress of the Night fires four projectiles in two bursts. They're slow, but if you're too close, they'll explode and possibly kill you instantly.
  1. Ice breath - Huang Yan slightly lifts the head of the fox she's wearing as a scarf, creating a straight line of icy breath. This spell inflicts Frostbite.
  1. Large sphere of destruction - the boss creates a single large sphere, which periodically fires smaller projectiles in random directions. After a while, the large sphere falls to the ground and explodes, inflicting Corruption.
  2. Pipe and mighty kick - the boss smokes her pipe and raises it, then lunges at Wuchang and spin kicks in midair. This attack inflicts Frostbite.
  1. Bouncing spheres of destruction - the boss creates many projectiles that fly in random directions, bouncing off objects, then flying at Wuchang. Each sphere applies Corruption.
  1. Fox transformation - when the boss' health drops to half, she will occasionally transform into a huge snow fox. After a moment she'll attack, lowering herself down to the ground. She can do it a few times with each hit inflicting Frostbite. Instead of charging, she can also slam the floor, creating a small explosion.

How to fight Mistress of the Night - Huang Yan?

We recommend fighting her from a distance, using spells like Feathering, which can inflict Corruption. Remember to avoid every projectile and attack to gain Skyborn Might.

The boss constantly runs away and casts spells, so ranged combat is recommended. If you'd rather fight her in melee, you'll need to rely on charged strikes to the back. Each backstab will stun her, letting you deal a critical hit.

The best moment for this is when she's smoking her pipe. Her back is completely exposed for a while when she smokes. A few Obliterates should kill her.

The best way to avoid her spells is to keep your distance. Keep an eye on where the spheres are, especially the large ones, while not letting her out of sight. It's then better to focus of defense. It's not worth dealing damage at that point, as you could lose plenty of health and get inflicted with Corruption, draining even more health.

There's no point going for longer combos. After the first hit, the boss will immediately run. It's important to only use charged attacks.
