General of the North Ai Nengqi in a nutshell
- Ai Nengqi can inflict the following statuses: Paralysis and Burn. The former will cause you to deal much less damage, while the latter will cause you to take more damage and lose health over time. It is worth getting armor that protects against these two undesirable effects at the same time.
- Needle Leech works great on this boss. To unlock this item, you must purchase the special skill of the same name. It'll allow you to regain health with each attack. Thanks to this, you won't even have to worry too much about defense, as each attack will regenerate your health. The exception, of course, are enemy attacks that apply statuses.
- Ai Nengqi is a large opponent, so it is worth equipping an amulet that increases damage against larger enemies.
- He fights well in both close and ranged combat. It is worth remembering that a bow shot will apply the Paralysis status, while melee weapons will apply the Burn status.
- The fight is divided into two phases. In the second phase, the boss gains access to fire attacks.
- The path to the boss itself is not far from the altar, but be careful when going down the snowy path. There are two buried anti-personnel mines there that deal massive damage if you step on them.
- General of the North is also susceptible to the Poise Break status, so you might want to consider equipping this Temperance.
General of the North - Ai Nengqi's attacks
- Jumping and punching - this is how Ai Nengqi usually starts the fight. He also repeats this attack if you get too far away from him. He jumps into the air, covering a considerable distance, then punches you with his fist.
- 5 sword spins - this attack has a steady pace, so it is easier to avoid.
- Electric shot - Ai Nengqi will move away and then shoot an electric arrow at you. The boss may fire a single shot (which can be performed twice in a row) or a single shot of several arrows in a horizontal line. The variant can be recognized by how many arrows are on the string.
- Aerial shots - In the second phase, the boss can also point his bow high into the sky and shoot. After a while, arrows will start falling in different directions. An arrow will land in the spot where you can see the current.
- Ice wave - the boss will stick one hand into the ground and then swing it after a while. This will create an ice wave in the shape of a cone.
- 7 fiery sword swings - General of the North will start swinging his sword a bit faster in the second phase. This attack is very similar to the five-swing combo from the first phase, the only differences being the speed and the fact that now each attack inflicts the Burn status on Wuchang.
- Fire projectiles - the boss will stomp his foot on the ground, then slash his sword from below and create several fire projectiles. The attack looks like a volcanic eruption. Wherever the sword swings, fiery missiles will follow.
How to fight General of the North - Ai Nengqi?
For this fight, we highly recommend transferring all your upgrade points to the Axe. Clash skills combined with Leech Temperance will be an excellent choice here. Charged heavy attacks will deal a lot of damage and you will heal from what you take.
However, if you don't want to do this, an important tip is to attack when your opponent finishes his offensive actions. It is worth using his jumps, because he will not attack for a while afterwards. Stick to his back. This is recommended mostly because then, the boss is unlikely to reach you when swinging his sword. This means you have plenty of time to attack him.
Treat any shots fired by the boss as opportunities to fill your Skyborn Might. The projectiles aren't difficult to avoid, so treat them as a power-up as long as you dodge them at the right moment (i.e. when the arrow is in front of your face).
In the second phase, 7 fiery sword swings are the most deadly attack. It is important not to panic if you are hit by one of them. Then, any attempt to dodge after taking damage may result in poor timing and, consequently, taking further damage. And so on until death. Therefore, it is better to even get hit twice with this attack and be careful with timing a dodge, rather than dodging immediately after the boss hits you.
It is important to wait a moment after taking damage and only then dodge. If you have the Clash ability, it is worth using it to neutralize the boss's damage and deal it to him instead.
If you want to dodge an ice wave, simply run to the side. Typically, the boss will fire a wave where his hand is pointing. So, if you are not close to it, you can even approach the boss and start attacking him.
