A science-fiction sandbox with additional role playing and real-time strategy elements. The action of Limit Theory takes place in the distant future, in a world established by legendary space pioneers who’ve began their quest by creating the Ancient Colony – the first human settlement in deep space. The swift advancement was possible thanks to the titular Limit Theory, a rule stating that the only existing limitation are the bounds of human mind, and that a person with enough willpower can defeat any obstacle. The game is a sandbox taking place in a procedurally-generated world. We are given a small ship and a freedom to do as we please, including a number of available careers, such as mercenary work, exploring, resource acquisition, or trading. The available camera views and control scheme are similar to what we could experience in the famed space simulators, such as Freelancer or Elite: Dangerous. Later parts of the game enable us to amass power and influence necessary to take control of an extensive territory and field military units which can be led in a manner seen in most real-time strategy games.

A riot simulation strategy game. Riot is the debut production from Stimunation, an Italian studio whose lead designer is a former cutscene producer at Valve. The action of Riot takes place in modern times. The society is forced to resort to mass rioting because of an economic crisis. The developers prepared an extensive campaign that lets us take part in the most famous riots of the recent years either as the protesting crowd or the police that try to restore order. The game also features a hot-seat multiplayer mode. What’s important, Riot doesn’t make fun of its subject but tries to present its essence. To faithfully recreate the reasons and the course of various riots, the developers interviewed people that participated in them on both sides. Virtual protests are shown in attractive pixel-art graphics that brings the visuals of Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP to mind.

The third installment in the unique space strategy game series, which utilizes oldschool roguelike elements. The game, and the whole series, which started out in 2002, was developed by American studio Digital Eel. Infinite Space 3: Sea of Stars is set in the future, where humanity has colonized many planets and established contact with alien civilizations. The gameplay doesn't give you any particular tasks, instead putting you in a randomly-generated world, which you can explore, have various adventures, and discover new locations of the vast universe. The game mostly uses a turn-based system, although combat takes place in real time. Like in roguelike games, you cannot save your game. Each gameplay lasts from about fifteen minutes to several dozen minutes, and the game is over once you die. Unlike the previous, 2D installments, Infinite Space 3: Sea of Stars utilizes a 3D engine, which enhanced the visuals and the dynamics of the gameplay.
