Is Circle of the Stars a good subclass for a Druid? Our Baldur's Gate 3 game guide will help you figure this out. We primarily explain what Starry Forms are and when they can be most useful. You will learn about other unique attacks and actions of this subclass, as well as how to play as a Circle of the Stars Druid.
The Circle of the Stars subclass appeared in BG3 along with Patch 8, which was released in April 2025. It wasn't available in the earlier versions of the game.

Who is the Circle of the Stars subclass for?
- The Circle of the Stars is a Druid subclass thematically based on constellations and astrology. You unlock it at level 2. In terms of mechanics, you will focus on frequently using bonus actions and dealing Radiant damage, bonus healing, as well as subtly influencing the results of dice rolls. You will also receive three Starry Forms, each with a different purpose, which will make you quite versatile.
- Undoubtedly, the most important statistic for a Star Druid is Wisdom (it affects all your spells). The second most important one is Constitution (it affects health and the accuracy of the Dazzling Breath attack). Also, put 14 points in Dexterity (you don't need any more than this; 14 Dexterity is enough to maximize the HP gained from medium armor).
Most important features of this subclass
- While playing as a Star Druid, prepare yourself for managing a large amount of exclusive resources. A Star Druid has as many as three types of charges unique to their class, each of which drives a different feature and different skills. These are: Wild Shape (default druid resource), Star Maps, and Cosmic Omens.
- At level 2, you will unlock the main feature: Starry Forms, which are alternative types of Wild Shapes. Instead of turning into an animal, you will summon the power of a constellation, which will give you a unique, free bonus action. The Archer allows you to use a Luminous Arrow (1d8 Radiant damage), the Dragon can maintain Concentration more easily and can cast a Dazzling Breath (2d6 area Radiant damage in a 5-meter cone), and the Chalice can cast a free Chalice Healing after casting any healing spell (heals 1d8 health points).
- At level 2, you will also receive the Guidance cantrip (definitely the best cantrip in the game, giving +1d4 to all Ability Checks), and you will receive a second unique subclass resource: Star Maps. By spending one Star Map, you can cast a Guiding Bolt without using up spell slots. Star Maps are replenished after a long rest. At the beginning, you have two of them, and at level 5, you will have three. You will also learn the regular version of the Guiding Bolt.
- At level 6, you will unlock the third unique class resource: Cosmic Omens. After each long rest, the game randomly activates one of two types of omens: Weal or Woe. Omens can affect the results of attack and defense rolls: Weal affects allies, while Woe affects enemies. If the roll was very close to success or failure, you can cast a reaction and a Cosmic Omen to modify its result by 1d6. Thanks to this, you can guarantee your success or make sure that the enemy's roll fails. You can also spend one omen to give an ally a bonus 1d6 to any skill check. Used Cosmic Omens are replenished after a long rest and initially you will have three of them.
- At level 9, the number of available Star Maps and Cosmic Omens will increase to 4.
- At level 10, your Starry Forms get upgraded. Luminous Arrow now deals 2k8 damage, Chalice Healing now heals 2k8 health points, and the Dragon form gains the ability to fly at a range of 6 meters per turn. Additionally, once per turn, you can also change the active Starry Form for free, without having to spend resources or actions.
How to play as a Circle of the Stars Druid?
- As a subclass, the Circle of the Stars performs particularly well in the first act, although it's still pretty good further into the game too. In the first act, having access to powerful attacks performed as additional actions is very valuable, as you don't have much to use your bonus actions on yet. Although in the second act the Starry Forms lose some of their strength due to the lack of scaling, you will face a huge number of enemies susceptible to Radiant, which is the type of damage you specialize in. In the third act, the Starry Forms will finally become more powerful. Since you'll finally have the possibility to switch between them as you wish, you will gain considerable versatility.
- Choose a Starry Form depending on your current needs. You will probably use the Archer form most often. The Chalice will work well in emergencies. However, do not underestimate the Dragon, which may turn out to be the best form thanks to its passive ability: every roll to maintain Concentration that gets a result of 9 or less will count as 10. In practice, this means that your Concentration is exceptionally difficult to break, which will allow you to maintain the effects of the most powerful spells in the game for a very long time. Also, remember to use Guiding Bolts and Cosmic Omens, the correct use of which can turn the tide of battle.
- Since at level 2 you unlock many very useful skills, the Circle of the Stars will work well in a multiclass build. For example, Cleric can be particularly strengthened by achieving the second level of a Star Druid.
