What are the assumptions of the Path of the Giant subclass?
- The described subclass offers a very interesting option, thanks to which the barbarian can temporarily increase their size and become a literal giant. This is related to the increase of some stats, and also opens up new strategic possibilities on the battlefield, such as blocking enemies' easy access to the rest of the team.
- The recommended character races for playing as a Giant Barbarian are Human and Dwarf. Keep in mind that after activating the key mode for this subclass, the option to cast spells will not be available.
Most important features of this subclass
- The most important new action for a Path of the Giant character is Rage. Your Barbarian can enter a Rage mode, in which their size increases. Active Rage also doubles the damage dealt by Throw attacks.
- At Level 10, you can unlock Elemental Cleaver, which is linked to Rage. While it's active, your weapons can deal bonus Elemental damage (Fire, Cold, Acid, Lightning, Thunder), as well as be thrown and reappear back in your hands once the action is performed.
- Other features of a Giant Barbarian are also worth your attention. Passive Vaprak's Greed allows for increasing the maximum carrying capacity by a quarter. Thanks to the Boot of the Giants, you can attempt to perform a powerful kick to push back an enemy (preferably into an abyss). The chances of success here depend on your Athletics level and whether your character was invisible when attacking. Mighty Impel, on the other hand, allows you to throw a creature or an object (of medium size or smaller).
- The Path of the Giants Barbarian also has access to Thaumaturgy, which enables free activation of cantrips. It is unlocked at level 3.
How to play as a Path of the Giant Barbarian?
- The most important feat for the Path of the Giant subclass is, of course, Strength. Also, make sure that Constitution and Dexterity receive more points.
- Changing the size of your Barbarian opens up a lot of new possibilities for you. First and foremost, you can turn your character into a tank, who, due to their size, will draw the enemies' attacks onto themselves. They can also block narrow passages and shield their companions, for example those who are less proficient in hand-to-hand combat. It is also worth using the Giant's unique attacks, such as kicks and throwing objects as well as creatures.
- We advise having only one Path of the Giant Barbarian in the team. In case of a larger number of them, you may have a serious problem with moving your team members around the battlefield.
- Rely regularly on Elemental Cleaver to gain easy access to various elemental attacks. This can be particularly helpful if the current enemies are weak to specific elements.
