Who is the Oath of the Crown Paladin?

1. The Oath of the Crown is a Paladin subclass based on acting on behalf of society and the ideals of civilization. You can unlock it at level 1. In terms of mechanics, this subclass is focused on supporting the rest of the team. As a Crown Paladin, your task is to take blows, heal other party members and strengthen them.
2. Just like with the other Paladin subclasses, while playing as a Crown Paladin, you must adhere to the most important values of your oath. For the Oath of the Crown, these are: law, loyalty, and responsibility. You must obey the law and not act to the detriment of civilization, not break your given word, not betray those to whom you have promised loyalty, and not try to evade the consequences of your actions. If you break any ideal of the oath, you will immediately become an Oathbreaker, which will change your subclass - we discussed this in more detail on the page dedicated to the Paladin class. It's also worth noting that morality doesn't affect the oath - breaking a promise made to a criminal will also deprive you of this subclass.
3. As a Crown Paladin, you especially need Strength (for attacks) and Charisma (for spells). Also, take care of maintaining a reasonably high level of Constitution.

Most important features of this subclass

1. At level 1, you will receive your first unique feature: Righteous Clarity. By using the Channel Oath (which you can do once per short rest), you can give yourself or any ally a bonus to attack rolls for 10 turns, which increases the chance of hitting the opponent.
2. At level 3, you will receive two bonus features, which also require the use of Channel Oath. Champion Challenge draws the attention of enemies to you for 10 turns. All enemies have difficulty attacking anyone but you. Turn the Tide is an area healing skill, scaling with your level and Charisma.
3. At level 7, you will learn the Divine Allegiance reaction. When an ally next to you takes damage, you can sacrifice your own health to heal them immediately.
4. Your spell list will also expand with a lot of spells assigned to the oath. At level 3, you will learn Command and Compelled Duel. At level 5, you will learn about Warding Bond and Spiritual Weapons. At level 9, you will learn about Spirit Guardians and Crusader’s Mantles.

How to play as a Crown Paladin?

1. As a Crown Paladin, you are a tank in heavy armor, drawing the attention of enemies, diverting them from less resilient team members, and supporting them through your unique features and spells. Playing as this subclass is quite simple. Remember, however, that you are still a Paladin - although your main task is to draw enemy attention to yourself, you are still able to inflict gigantic damage through Divine Smite.
