Can you complete both Underdark and Mountain Pass?
Yes. Both regions leading to the Moonrise Towers in act 1 of Baldur's Gate 3 can be completed during the same game. These regions are not locked, you can freely return to any other place from act 1, provided that you do not pass the point of no return.

Underdark and Mountain Pass have their waypoints on the map, so you can easily teleport to previously discovered places. There is also an elevator which you can use to travel from the Mountain Pass to the Underdark.
Each of these locations has its own side quests, interesting loot to collect, and a few stronger bosses. So it's worth visiting and checking them both out to uncover as many secrets in BG3 as possible. In Underdark, you will make progress in quests related to Shadowheart, while the Mountain Pass will be a place that Lae'zel wants to visit.
Which one to choose first - Underdark or Mountain Pass?
So the question remains, which location should you go to first? On one hand, the Mountain Pass is much smaller than the Underdark, so it might seem that exploring the mountains will be faster for you, but actually the Underdark is the easier location. That's why we advise starting with Underdark.

The entire Underdark is roughly as expansive as the surface. There are many side quests to do, and as a result, more items and experience points to collect. Upon entering the Underdark, your characters should be at least on level 4. In Mountain Pass, you will have to fight a very powerful opponent, so it's worth exploring the Underdark first to collect new items and weapons. While visiting the Mountain Pass, your party should be at level 5.
