Cyberpunk 2077: Character development Guide
In Cyberpunk 2077, you will constantly develop your character. You do that by improving Attributes, Perks, Cyberware, etc. On this page of the guide you will find descriptions of the mechanics that directly affect the development of your character.
Character class
There are no divisions into classes in Cyberpunk 2077. Character development depends directly on your actions and choices made in the game world.
You can only choose the origin of your hero, which will affect the starting location. Thanks to this solution, you can start the game several times and each time in a different place. More about origin can be found on the page How does a character's origin affect the game?.
Attributes
Attributes are basic statistics that describe the strengths of your character. There are 5 attributes:
- Body - responsible for health and stamina;
- Reflexes - improves your critical damage chance;
- Cool - affects critical damage, resistance, and detection time;
- Technical Ability - determines the armor level;
- Intelligence - affects RAM.
You will determine the initial value of attributes during character creation. Every time you level up, you receive an additional point, which you can invest in the selected statistic. The higher the attribute, the bigger the bonus. A high level in a given attribute also allows you to learn perks.
Perks
Perks can be passive or active. Their development trees are associated with specific attributes. As with the main stats, every time you level up you get a perk point. In addition, some perks have several levels, where each successive level strengthens their effect.
You can read more about attributes and perks on the How to develop the character? page.
Skills
Skills in Cyberpunk 2077 are divided into 5 categories:
- Headhunter;
- Netrunner;
- Shinobi;
- Solo;
- Engineer.
Each category corresponds to a different set of actions, which are rewarded with experience points. Every 5 skill levels, the player receives a passive boost, an additional point or a permanent stat improvement.
Hero's reputation
Street Cred is improved by helping Night City residents and reducing crime in the city. Street cred can be received, among other things, for completing quests, dealing with criminals, or responding to requests from the police. High Street Cred unlocks additional quests or new equipment available in shops.
Cyberware
Another way to develop your character is to place implants in your body. They are completely optional - plot-wise, the game will only force you to install two.
The cyberware is installed by visiting ripperdocs. Each cyberware (excluding quest rewards) has to be purchased and sometimes this is only possible after reaching a certain Street Cred level. Modifications can improve the performance of the implant, e.g. increase the number of enemies you can set on fire with your weapon.
