A multiplayer-only first-person shooter/role playing game developed by Frog Factory. The story of Heathen was inspired by The Island of Dr. Moreau, a cult-classic novel by H.G. Wells describing a mysterious island inhabited by Beast Folk, human-animal hybrids created by the aforementioned scientist. After the death of its benefactor, the island has been rediscovered by a biologist and an entrepreneur, who had picked up the research in order to create a source of cheap workforce for humanity. After a period of relative peace, the human overlords begin to lose control over the beasts and are forced to defend themselves from the increasingly aggressive creatures. The game is focused around small teams from four up to five players that assume the roles of Beast Folk, exploring the island and taking over new territories according to the Moreau’s Law. During the game, players complete various quests, develop their characters, and modify their equipment, as well as engage in PvP combat or join forces to create guilds.

A brutal, dynamic action game set in a fantasy world. It was developed by DrinkBox - a studio popular for such games as Mutant Blobs Attack or Guacamelee. The player assumes the role of a female warrior who realizes that she has lost her left arm. Traversing a land full of magic, fantasy civilizations and ancient ruins, the protagonist tries to discover the truth behind the mutilation. The game is played from the first person perspective and the player fights subsequent enemies mainly, making use of an unusual combat system based on gestures. A key part is played by chopping off extremities of enemies, which can be later assembled to the protagonist's body making her more effective in combat and granting access to new fighting techniques. The game stands out with a minimalistic interface and an original graphic style. The latter is filled with sharp lines and very bright colors.

A sequel to the unusual platform game The Sun at Night that was developed by independent studio Minicore from Texas. The first game told the story of the famous astronaut dog named Laika. The Sky Below starts where the previous game ended. The protagonist leaves the icy Arctic and enters the vast, inaccessible forests of Russia. There she discovers some shocking and well hidden information that reveal new facts about the human history and about a mysterious power, thanks to which the Soviets control almost the whole planet. As she will learn, the answers are hidden someplace high above the clouds. The gameplay mechanics weren’t greatly changed and the title still belongs to the metroidvania genre, which combines the traits of classic platform games with free exploration of the world and character development system taken from role-playing games. The title introduces three suits equipped with different weapons and passive abilities. The player can choose which one to use.

A refreshed version of Jamestown: Legend of the Lost Colony, a side-scroller taking place in an unusual setting. We are taken to an alternative version of 17th century, in which the Spanish, British, and Martian forces clash in a fight for the right to colonize Mars. The player assumes control over a small vessel that is tasked with the elimination of hordes of enemies that appear along the way. The gameplay of the new edition is almost identical to its predecessor, offering a two-dimensional side-scrolling experience seen from a top-down perspective. The action has a considerable pace, with simultaneous attack and evasive maneuvers requiring a good deal of dexterity. When it comes to novelties, Jamestown Plus contains a number of updates and fixes, as well as new ship models with unique armament and special abilities. Moreover, the authors introduced a new chapter of the story which concludes the events seen in the original game.

A mix of several genres: survival sandbox, action RPG, and roguelike. Proven Lands was developed by a few independent developers known as thesetales. The player assumes control of a crew member whose spaceship had crashed on an uncharted planet. Separated from the rest of the crew, the hero has to survive on his own by gathering resources and supplies, hunting wild animals, crafting tools and building shelter. Interestingly enough, once we’ve managed to reach the necessary tech level, we can embark on a journey through the galaxy, encountering alien planets and races, as well as developing our character by choosing one of the available character classes. All of the game’s contents, including explored worlds, found items, encountered characters, or assigned quests are procedurally generated and directed by an AI game master. Aside from the sandbox mode, the authors prepared an extensive single-player campaign which develops the aforementioned story of the crashed spaceship and its stranded crew. The game is characteristic for its appealing visuals – the game is powered by Unity engine.

The debut production of Broken Window. It is a sandbox arcade action game with survival elements. The action of Grave takes place in grim and slightly surreal wastelands that are desolate and relatively safe during the day. At night, however, various kinds of disgusting monsters come out to hunt for the player character. Although the game doesn’t feature traditional weapons, the protagonist is not completely defenseless — he can use various tools and items that can serve as weapons when necessary. The title is characterized by the constantly changing world which is governed by an advanced system of procedural content generation. The artificial intelligence of monsters also deserves a praise since they behave like true predators, using various senses and attacks.

While the governments try to use the Incarnates' powers to advance their own ends, the heroes place their lives on the line to fight for domination and ending the rule of “Sovereign" of the era. The fights play out in 2v2 model, on spacious arenas which represent ruined modern cities, such as London or New York. Each of the characters has their own set of abilities and a unique playstyle. The key to success is to study each character’s skill set, and look for the right opportunities to employ it.

A several-hours long story DLC included in the Season Pass to the action game Batman: Arkham Origins released in 2013. Just like the original game, the expansion was developed by WB Games Montreal. The story of Cold, Cold Heart features Batman’s trying to stop Mr. Freeze — one of the super villains from the original comic books — whose actions threaten lives of guests at the New Year’s Eve "Humanitarian of the Year" gala. In terms of gameplay, Cold, Cold Heart copies the mechanics used in Batman: Arkham Origins, therefore we get to freely traverse open locations, solve environmental puzzles, sneak into guarded rooms, and fight powerful opponents using high-tech gadgets. A novelty introduced in the expansion is the new version of Batman’s suit that enables the hero to operate under extremely low temperatures. In order to enjoy the contents of Cold, Cold Heart you have to have the original game installed. As for the graphics, DLC uses the same technology as Batman: Arkham Origin, that is Unreal Engine 3.

An original combination of a third-person action game with endless runner mechanics. MechRunner was created by Spark Plug Games - an independent developer. The plot is set in an alternative reality of the 20th century. In 1940s, Russian scientists discovered a wreck of an alien spacecraft and used the technology obtained from the craft to create an incredibly powerful weapon for the KGB. When a power-hungry general decides to use that weapon against Europe, one engineer stands up to him, having constructed their own combat mech. The player controls this machine in the game, destroying everything that comes from the opposite side of the screen - both from the ground and air. When out of combat, the player speeds through the levels, avoiding obstacles and gathering various collectibles that allow for mech upgrades. Interestingly, the machine can transform into a tank at any time, which changes the combat style and armament.

Threatened by the evil forces, intelligent races of Acheron form an Alliance and send a special expedition to the source of evil, the island of Tamrel. We take the role of one of the members of that expedition. As in every proper MMORPG, we explore, fight, and do numerous quests. Our hero gets stronger and stronger as we play, gaining access to more powerful skills and equipment. Darken Age: The Awakening of the Forgotten also has an interesting crafting system that requires the players to cooperate. The game has optional microtransactions.

A roguelike hack'n'slash game featuring pixel-art visuals. Crawl was designed specifically for local multiplayer and developed by the debuting team at Powerhoof. In the game, heroes exploring dungeons encounter monsters defending the place against undesired visitors. Up to four players can meet in a session - one of them assumes the role of the hero traversing dungeons filled with threats. The remaining players control various monsters, whose task is to prepare traps and obstacles in order to make it more difficult for the hero to achieve their goal. In terms of mechanics, the game resembles classic roguelike RPGs, in which the player gathers parts of equipment scattered throughout dungeons and levels up gradually, improving their skills. When the hero dies, the players swap their roles, but interestingly, the new hero keeps both the items and experience gathered by the player who was previously in control of that character. Once the hero has reached level 10, they go through a mysterious portal and the final boss fight begins.

An independent RPG production of the debuting studio Vagabond Dog that received an honorable mention at PAX Prime and PAX East. Always Sometimes Monsters allows the player to assume the role of an unfulfilled contemporary artist that has to cope with life’s adversities. The protagonist’s main task is to stop his/her beloved from marrying the wrong person. To this end, we must get to the far side of the United States after having collected the money for the journey. Always Sometimes Monsters offers many various solutions of a given problem—the player can decide what job to take, how to speak to the encountered non-player characters, or what to sacrifice to achieve the ultimate goal. Decisions we make directly influence the protagonist’s fate and the game’s ending. Always Sometimes Monsters was made with RPG Maker which is the reason why it features very simple two-dimensional graphics and a camera placed at 45 degrees angle.

A third person action-RPG created by Elemental-Labs - an independent developer. Reborn is set in an alternative, cyberpunk vision of 2188's Japan. The protagonist is called Musashi Miyamoto, and he is a futuristic equivalent of a ronin. His main enemy are the Nexus Roku corporation and its female CEO who is trying to release an ancient demon. The game world is dark, full of social inequality and rivaling cartels. What is more, the difference between a human being and a machine is getting more and more difficult to judge as cybernetic implants are spreading throughout the world. The story-based campaign comprises a series of linear missions. However, the game offers a character development system based on levels and experience points. This, along with the possibility to use the previously mentioned implants, is what builds the pillar of freedom offered by this game. Inventory-related aspects have their influence on the gameplay as well, for the player gathers equipment dropped by defeated enemies. Although the player encounters many enemies in the game, open combat is not necessarily the only possible solution, for the protagonist can sneak and perform quick retreats - depending on the tactics applied, relationships with NPCs can develop in different directions. The first major standalone expansion for Company of Heroes 2, a popular war strategy game from Relic Entertainment. Contrary to the vanilla game, which focuses on the Russian-German struggle on the Eastern Front, the add-on takes us to the West, letting us assume command over two completely new armies that so far were only available in DLCs. We may lead either the US Army or the German Oberkommando. Each side received new, previously unavailable abilities and enhancements as well as strategic and tactical capabilities. The gameplay was enriched by the introduction of a reworked progression system. There are also new types of units, characteristic of the aforementioned sides of the conflict, to choose from. Despite the fact that The Western Front Armies is dedicated to multiplayer gameplay, it is also possible to compete against the AI.
