Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 continues the story started in the first game of the series. We are still following young Henry, who is trying to find his way in the complex realities of medieval Bohemia. On this page, you will find out whether knowledge of the first game is necessary to enjoy the sequel.

This page contains minor plot spoilers from the first few hours of the game.

Do you need to know the plot of the first game?

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 begins shortly after the events of the original game. Henry and Capon are traveling on horseback through medieval Czech Republic. Their mission is to deliver an important message to Otto von Burgow - the lord of the Trosky Castle.

During the prologue, players familiarize themselves not only with the basic gameplay mechanics. Dialogues between the characters serve to outline the general context of the story, which will help new players to understand the situation and learn about the characters' relationships. Conversations and retrospections quite well outline the context of events and allow for drawing basic conclusions about the protagonist's and his companions' goals and motivations.

The traumatic events from the prologue also explain why is the protagonist so weak and serve as a pretext for leveling up and developing the hero anew.

However, it should be clearly noted that players who remember the plot of the first game will find their way much faster in the maze of names and terms. They will also notice subtle references that the rest of the audience won't get.

Ultimately, however, the plot of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is presented in such an accessible way that new players to the series should not have much trouble understanding and enjoying the game. Knowledge of the first part becomes a nice addition in this case, but not an absolute necessity.
