Via Argentum is one of the main quests in Kingdom Come 2. It's a long quest requiring many conversations and undercover activities. On this guide page, we described how to help Ruthard, conduct an investigation in the mine and the smelter, and find evidence of the theft of the royal silver.

How to help Ruthard?

Head to Ruthard's estate south of Kuttenberg. When you enter the courtyard, a cutscene will trigger. You will meet Ruthard and his daughter Rosa; you will be forced to help them in the fight against Sigismund's soldiers. After getting rid of the enemies, you will strike a deal with Ruthard: he will help you free Hans in exchange for evidence of the theft of the royal silver, committed by his persecutor, Ulrich Vavak. Ruthard will direct you to Christian, the manager of the silver mine next to Grund.

How to conduct an investigation in the mine?

Go to Christian and talk to him. He will tell you to conduct an investigation under cover; you can choose one of the offered fake identities. Your task is to talk to three specific miners and ask them about the amount of silver they have mined.

  1. You will find Frank inside the mine, near the entrance. You can persuade him to speak (Domination - Medium; Dread - Easy), bribe him (50 groschen) or bring some beer for him and his people in exchange for information.
  2. You will find Pavel at the very bottom of the mine. He's mourning one of his deceased miners - if you express sympathy and pray together, he will tell you everything willingly.
  3. You will find Samko outside the mine, under a kind of gazebo with a straw roof, in the relaxation area for miners. You can persuade him to speak (Speech - Medium; Dread - Easy), bribe him (200 groschen) or play dice with him.

Once you've dealt with all the conversations, return to Christian and tell him what you've learnt. He will point you to the next two suspects, Fett and Hermann.

  1. Hermann will break very easily - just a bit of persuasion will suffice (Domination, Speech, Dread - Easy).
  2. Fett is somewhat more resistant, but not too problematic (Speech - Medium, Charisma - Medium, Might - Easy).

How to conduct an investigation in the smelter?

Thanks to the testimonies of Hermann and Fett, you will get to know your main suspect: Buresh, the owner of the smelter. You need to go to Grund in order to talk to him. First, however, make sure that you are clean, dressed in elegant attire (without visible armor elements) and do not have any weapons with you; otherwise, Buresh won't talk to you. Buresh is picky, and even a single clothing item he doesn't like (e.g. a gambeson instead of a coat) will make him ignore you. If necessary, you can purchase appropriate clothing from the tailor at the western walls of Kuttenberg and also use the local bathhouse.

After talking to Buresh and asking him about the operation of the smelter and the amount of processed silver, head inside the smelter. Talk to any worker, and they will direct you to Shima. You need to convince Shima to speak (Craftsmanship - Easy; Dread - Easy; Speech - Medium; Charisma - Medium) or bribe him (200 groschen). You will find out that the smelter Volkmar is involved in thefts. You will find him in front of the stables he recently bought. Before you talk to him, make sure you are armed.

Volkmar will send his people after you and try to silence you. Before the fight, you will have the opportunity for persuasion (Coercion, Domination, Might - Hard; Dread - Medium). If you succeed, you will only have to fight one enemy - if not, you will fight three enemies at once. After the fight, ask Volkmar about everything - in the end, you can either kill him or let him go.

How to find the secret mint?

You will find Buresh's secret mint to the east of Grund (the ladder leading to it is at the very south of the quest area). Be ready for a fight - at the end of the linear hall, you will meet Buresh and three soldiers. Buresh will try to bribe you: you can refuse (this will lead to a fight) or accept the bribe (ask for a large bribe). Accepting a bribe, however, will not lead you to the evidence you are looking for - you will have to obtain it on your own (for example, you could secretly knock out Buresh while he is leaving the mint).

If you refuse the bribe, you will have to defeat three soldiers. Retreat to the long, narrow hall you came through first - this way the enemies will have to fight you one by one instead of in a group. After everything, Buresh will reveal almost everything to you, begging for mercy, and in the end you will be able to decide whether to kill him or let him go. During the conversation, Buresh will try to hide from you that he has a letter from Vavak: if you don't get it from him through persuasion (Coercion - Hard), you will only be able to get the letter by killing him and searching his body.

Take Buresh's keys and the key to the chest from the table and go to the room where two prisoners are minting money. You can convince them that they are free and are allowed to leave (Charisma - Medium; Dread - Hard). Take the financial book from the chest in this room and return to Christian. The more information you reveal to him and the more evidence you gather, the better will be your reward. If you have gathered everything, he will suggest that you take over the counterfeiting operation to really upset Sigismund - you can agree or refuse. This will complete the quest.
