Our experiences with the performance of KCD 2

Most of the tests were conducted on a Hyperbook NP5 laptop with the following specifications:

  1. Intel Core i7-13700HX;
  2. NVIDIA RTX 4070 Laptop;
  3. 16 GB DDR5 (4800 MT/s);
  4. Windows 11.

The laptop was always connected to the power supply.

From the tests we conducted, it turns out that KCD 2 is a surprisingly well-optimized game. A test walk around the village of Troskowitz and its surroundings, in fullHD resolution (1920x1080) on Ultra settings, got results oscillating between 60 and 90 frames per second, with very occasional drops below these values. Fans of graphic fireworks may be tempted to enable the highest settings described as experimental. In the case of our configuration, this limited the frames to a still pleasant 40-60 FPS.

It's worth mentioning that FSR and DLSS technologies play a significant role in optimizing settings on PC. Both upscalers are available in the latest game from Warhorse studio. You can enable them in the settings, in the Graphics settings tab.

Setting DLSS to quality mode allowed us to increase the average number of FPS by several frames, while maintaining a very satisfying image quality.

Persistent players should also check out the advanced graphic settings, where they will be able to adjust the individual values for most elements. Reducing the quality of less important effects (volumetric effects, post-processing) can save a few valuable frames.

Players using the Steam Deck will certainly be pleased to hear that KCD 2 is doing quite well on Valve's portable platform. You can read more about this topic on a separate page of our guide.

Jacek Halas comments:

I tested the game on a TUF F15 laptop with RTX3060 graphics, 16 GB RAM and an i7-12650H processor. After setting the medium details (with a few high settings and without DLSS), the game looked nice most of the time, running at 60 frames or being very close to achieving this result. There were some frame drops while traveling around the city of Kuttenberg, but they were not that noticeable. The game could also momentarily slow down during battles with a large number of characters, but after loading all the data, the framerate returned to an acceptable level.

Filip Melzacki comments:

We tested the game on a desktop computer with RTX 2060 graphics, 32 GB RAM and a Ryzen 7 X3D5700 processor. On the default, medium graphic settings, the game ran at a smooth 60 frames. I did not encounter any noticeable drops, neither during normal gameplay, nor during sieges, nor during exploration of the large, densely populated city of Kuttenberg.
