You will start the quest in the middle of the siege. A short and scripted mission awaits you. When the quest starts, run up the stairs opposite to the walls. You have to shoot at enemy soldiers here. During this segment, nothing threatens you, and your accuracy doesn't matter - use this situation to get used to the aiming system and the slightly swaying crossbow. After taking a shot, hold down the aiming button to reload the weapon.
After a short while, a large group of enemies will cross the bridge. Go down the stairs to the courtyard. You can shoot at the soldiers through the gate, but there is no need - after a moment your allies will pour burning oil on the enemies. Your commander will order you to follow him. You will reach the walls again, where your goal is to knock over the ladder. It is located on the left side of the walls and you have to hold the interaction button to knock it over (you can check the compass at the top of the screen). If enemies stand in your way, you will have to get rid of them - you have not yet learned about the melee combat system, but the support of the commander should be enough. Knocking over the ladder will end the sequence.
How to calm down Captain Thomas?
After the cut-scene, you will move to Henry who is following Hans Capon. Your horse runs automatically, so you just need to answer Hans' questions during the ride - your answers don't have any particular significance. You will eventually come across a unit of soldiers led by Captain Thomas and you will have to defuse the tension. First, you have to introduce yourselves, which will slightly affect your initial statistics. Presenting yourself as a soldier increases combat-related statistics, as an advisor - persuasion, and as a scout - stealth. Next, you will have a short persuasion tutorial - choose the option that matches the profession you have introduced. Choosing the second option (Charisma) was a success for us, regardless of how we introduced ourselves. Even if persuasion ends in failure, Hans will get you out of trouble.
How to feed a dog?
After a successful conversation, you will break up the camp. Before you talk to Hans, you can complete an optional task - feed your dog, Mutt. To do this, call the dog and then talk to Oats, the cook standing by the fire. He has a sausage, which you can get from him in two ways - through persuasion (we succeeded with the Charisma option) or exchange. Oats will demand his ring, which he lost in a dice game with Tankard, a soldier sitting at the table. You can play dice with him to get the ring - try as much as you want, as failure will not have any consequences. Tankard plays very riskily and often loses points, continuing the turn even when he has few dice left. You can exchange the ring for a sausage for the dog. If you have already obtained it through persuasion, you can keep it or give it to Oats (you will not receive any reward in return).
How to win the sparring match?
When you are ready, talk to Hans Capon and equip yourself with the gear you will get from him - a training sword, a hood, and a helmet. Go through the fence to the makeshift arena where the melee combat tutorial will take place. Follow the game instructions - you will learn to attack, use combinations, block, perform perfect blocks, ripostes, and bypass the enemy's guard. At the end of the training, Hans will challenge you to a duel and offer a bet of 100 Groschen - you can agree, double the stake, or fight without a bet. If you still remember the combat system from the first game, you should be able to handle Hans.
The defensive strategy worked best in defeating Hans. He is a decent fencer often performing perfect blocks and ripostes - however, he is only able to perform two perfect blocks in a row. Wait for Hans' strike, perform a perfect block and riposte, then perfectly block and riposte his riposte to hit him. The biggest threat in this fight is running out of stamina - pay attention to the yellow bar at the bottom of the screen and slowly retreat if it drops low. If your stamina runs out, Hans will start mercilessly beating you. However, if you adopt a defensive strategy, he will have to rest when you do. If you want to be a bit more aggressive, you can respond to Hans' slashes not with blocks, but with stabs - they are faster than slashes, so with good timing you can interrupt him and deal damage. The sparring may take quite a long time, but you should be able to win it.
How to sneak through the bushes?
After winning the sparring, sit by the fire. During the conversation, you will enhance several attributes and skills - you can choose a small bonus to Strength, Dexterity, Vitality, or Persuasion, then to dog taming, sneaking, survival skills, or reading, and finally to your preferred weapon - swords, clubs, fists, or ranged. You will also determine here whether you had a romance with Teresa during the previous game.
After the conversation, you will have to sneak through the bushes with Hans. Crouch and avoid stepping into the grass - the bushes create a natural linear path. At the end, you will come across a woman doing laundry in the lake, standing at a fork in the paths - throw a stone to the left or right of her, wait until she approaches the stone, then sneak past her to the other path. After that, you will watch a cut-scene.
How to escape the bandits?
Wounded and defenseless, you will have to flee through the forest from the bandits who are hunting you. Start by following Hans, crouching and hiding from enemies. Avoid the torchlight, which signals the positions of enemies. At every fork there is a dark path and a lit path - always go the dark one. This will eventually lead you to the hill you have to climb - the road is winding, but linear. You will eventually reach the top of the cliff, where a fallen tree will block your way.
Go back the same way you came - eventually you will run into Hans again, who fell a bit behind. Return to the cliff and lift the log together with Hans. After a very short cut-scene, you will acquire a weapon and fight a bandit. Due to your wounds, you have very little health and one blow is enough to defeat you, but you don't have to win this fight - the outcome will always be the same. After that, watch another cut-scene. Henry and the bandit will fall off the cliff - the protagonist will barely survive the fall. This will complete the quest.
