Kingdom Come Deliverance 2: Steam Deck
The first part of Kingdom Come Deliverance became known as a production that worked well with the Steam Deck console. And how is the case with the sequel? From this page you will learn how KCD 2 works on Valve's portable platform.
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is a title perfectly suited for Valve's portable platform thanks to its RPG nature. On this page of the guide, you will learn whether the Warhorse Studios game works well on Steam Deck and what settings you should go for to ensure smooth and satisfying gameplay.
The tests were conducted on the pre-release version of the game. There is a high chance that with subsequent updates and patches, the performance of the game on Steam Deck will change.
What are the best KCD 2 settings for Steam Deck?
Based on our experiences, it seems that KCD 2 performs quite well on Steam Deck, just like the first game. In the first batch of tests, we used the following graphic settings:
- Resolution: 1280 x 800 (native resolution of Steam Deck);
- Overall image quality: Low;
- VSync: Disabled;
- Frame rate limit: 60 FPS;
- FSR: Performance;
- Motion blur: Disabled;
- Depth of field: Disabled;
- Steam Deck: Run on the battery, 15W TDP;
- Test area: Troskowitz village.
With the aforementioned settings, the game fluctuated between 50 and 60 FPS during a walk around a rural area. This result allowed for comfortable gameplay, while maintaining a pleasant image quality (especially with the console's small screen).
Increasing the quality settings to the Medium preset reduced the number to around 40-50 FPS. People aiming for slightly higher quality may opt for this setting, while reducing the refresh rate to 40 Hz. This should positively affect the battery life of the Steam Deck.
One problem we encountered while testing was UI scaling, especially the inventory and the map. Some elements, such as small icons and captions, were quite difficult to distinguish on the small console screen. We also observed problems with jagged edges of the UI and the general blurring of some surfaces (especially visible on the map screen).
However, these issues did not significantly disrupt our gameplay and there is a high chance that they will be addressed in future game updates.
