Bozhena and Pavlena are kind women living in the forest, who helped Hans and Henry during the prologue of KCD 2. If you return to the forest hut at a later stage of the game, you will find out that the daughter has disappeared without a trace. This event will start the series of Bad Blood quests. Your objective will be to find and save Pavlena. On this page of the guide, you will learn how to do this and what the consequences are for decision made in these quests.

How to start the Bad Blood quest?

After finishing the prologue, you can go back to Bozhena's cottage. It is located in the central part of the region and is surrounded by dense forest. You will also get there while completing a quest involving looking for your lost dog (you can learn about this on the dedicated page: Where is the dog (Mutt)?).

While talking with the herbalist, she will reveal to you that her daughter has disappeared. Ask about Pavlena, then go to the cottage and go up to the mezzanine where Pavlena normally sleeps.

While visiting Bozhena, you can also repay her for her earlier help. You can learn more about this on the dedicated page: Should you repay Bozhena for her help?.

Examine all the items left behind by Pavlena. After finding a man's hat, talk to Bozhena. The older woman will send you to the village of Troskowitz and instruct you to question the local residents.

How to get information from residents?

Most residents of Troskowitz will not know anything about Pavlena. Only Dushko, a local lumberjack, will lead you to the right path. The man confesses that his assistant Roman and Pavlena had an affair, but some time ago they both disappeared. He will also advise you to break into Roman's house and search all the rooms. The cottage is located in the eastern part of the town, next to the spot where you stumble upon Dushko.

Use a lock pick to get inside (the lock is not too difficult to open). In the dining room on the left side of the house, you will find uneaten meal leftovers.

Return to Dushko. The lumberjack will show you a popular meeting place where the two could have gone to. The stream flowing from Roman's cottage will lead you there.

How to identify the murder perpetrator?

Upon reaching the picnic site, examine the bloodstained rock, and then head deep into the forest, following the trail of blood.

After a short while, you will find the half-buried body of Roman and a wild boar hanging around the area.

In the distance, you will hear the voice of a swineherd. Head in his direction.

Tell the swineherd about your discovery. The boy will point to a local hired hand nicknamed Straw, who has recently been hanging around the area.

What to do with Straw?

You'll find Straw on a property in the southern part of the village.

When confronted, he'll deny everything you'll say. You can influence him in several ways. In our case, intimidation turned out to be the most effective. Straw will confess that he and his brother (Olda) intended to scare Pavlena and that Roman was killed unintentionally as a result of an unfortunate scuffle.

Ask about Pavlena. The hired hand will reveal his brother's hiding place, where the herbalist's daughter is most likely being held.

At the end of the conversation, you can decide what to do with Straw:

  1. You can administer justice yourselves and simply kill him.
  2. You can let him go.
  3. You can also take him to the village administrator, who will decide his fate in accordance with the law.

If you decide to go with the third option, you can gently suggest to the administrator how severe the punishment should be.

How to convince Olda to release Pavlena?

Olda's hideout is located in the forests south of the village. You will recognize the place by high rocks and a ladder guarded by a dog (it's not aggressive). Before going into the hideout, we recommend that you save the game, in case the conversation doesn't go as desired.

A panicked Olda will take Pavlena hostage and with a sword at her throat, he will start a conversation. During the conversation, you can try to influence him in several ways. However, you must choose your words carefully, as Pavlena's life is at stake here.

In our case, the decisive argument turned out to be the promise of letting him go if he releases Pavlena. You'll never see it through though, as the herbalist's daughter will Oldra as soon as he turns around.

Talk to Pavlena and take her back to Bozhena's cottage.

The herbalist will thank you for bringing her daughter home and will ask you to take care of one more matter. Bozhena will order you to murder Jakesh, who started this whole circle of hatred in the first place.

What to do with Jakesh?

You will find Jakesh praying over the grave, in the southern part of the village. According to Bozhena's wish, you can simply kill him. However, a bloodless resolution of the conflict is also possible.

Try to persuade Jakesh to abandon his old grievances. The man is quite stubborn, so it may be necessary to use several methods of persuasion. In our case, only a direct threat turned out to be effective. Jakesh will also give you some coins as compensation for Bozhena.

Go back to Bozena and report to her what happened.

  1. Generally, you don't have to mention Jakesh's compensation.
  2. You can also return the full amount to Bozhena or accept half of it (50 groschen) as a thank you.

Right after this conversation, the Bad Blood quest will come to an end.
