As the name suggests, the quest Necessary Evil in Kingdom Come 2 will put your morality to the test. On this guide page, we described how to interrogate the prisoner, whether you should torture him, whether to tell von Burgow about the traitor, and whose side to take during the raid on Semine.

How to interrogate the prisoner?

Von Burgow will order you to extract information from the captured bandit. Follow Hans Capon to the basement and to the torture chamber, where a prisoner is waiting for you. Before starting the interrogation, equip yourself with an outfit that will give you as much Speech, Charisma, and Dread as possible. You can persuade the prisoner to talk or torture him - torture guarantees extracting information from him without any skill checks. If you torture him too often, the prisoner may die before he tells you what you want to know.

The prisoner knows a lot of minor details, but the most important are two pieces of information - where the bandits are hiding (you already know the answer if you have completed the secret objective in the Back in the Saddle task) and who among Bergow's subjects is a traitor (Olda, the son of the Lord Semine). So focus on extracting this information from the prisoner, and if you intend to torture him, do it only while asking about these two things.

Should you tell von Burgow about the traitor?

After the interrogation is over, report to von Burgow. The interrogation can end in three different ways:

  1. You failed to uncover the identity of the traitor - von Burgow will send you to Semine along with Hashek to interrogate Olda, whom he suspects. A small group of soldiers will go to Semine.
  2. You discovered the identity of the traitor and handed him over to von Burgow - von Burgow will send you to Semine along with Hashek to arrest Olda. A large group of soldiers will go to Semine.
  3. You discovered the identity of the traitor and concealed it - von Burgow will be convinced that he was not betrayed. The task will end immediately, there will be no invasion of Semine, and you will receive an achievement. The consequences of this decision will likely reveal themselves later - the page will be updated when we come across them. Unfortunately, even if you go to Semine alone, you cannot inform anyone there about the young master being the traitor.

Whose side to take during the invasion of Semine?

If von Burgow orders an attack on Semine, you will have to join Hashek in the courtyard the next morning. Go with him to Semine or go there alone. On the way, you can talk to Hashek and find out what the bandits' ambush he survived looked like.

When you arrive at the location, Hashek will oppose his master's orders and, eager for revenge, will start escalating the conflict. You won't be able to solve this situation peacefully anymore. You will have to make a decision - stop Hashek from causing a massacre or stand by his side.

  1. If you try to stop Hashek, both he and his unit will turn against you. You will have to kill Hashek and his people. After the clash, all the inhabitants of the fortress, including the Lord Semine and his son, will flee the region, setting fire to the fortress behind them to mislead von Burgow. Henry and Capon will have to lie to von Burgow and hide their betrayal.
  2. If you stand by Hashek, you will have to fight with the Lord Semine, Captain Gnarly and his men. After everything, Hashek and his men will massacre all the inhabitants of the fortress, including civilians, and you will have to find Olda at the top of the tower. There you can arrest him or let him go. If you try to take him captive, Hashek will set the fortress on fire, burning both the Lord Semine and his son. If you try to set young Semine free, Hashek will accuse you of treason and attack you - you will have to kill both him and all of von Burgow's soldiers. The only survivors of the massacre will be Olda and his father, who will escape, and you will have to hide the betrayal from von Burgow.

After everything, return with Capon to Trosky Castle and sleep in your quarters. Talk to von Burgow in the morning. Depending on your decision, one of two conversations will take place:

  1. If you killed Hashek, you will have to lie to von Burgow about the events in Semine. You can speak yourself or let Capon talk - during the conversation you will not encounter any skill checks. Under no circumstances should you admit to killing Hashek when you have the opportunity - it results in immediate death.
  2. If you allowed Hashek to commit a massacre, your opinion will not matter - von Burgow will in no way punish Hashek for his crime.

After the conversation with von Burgow, the quest will be completed.
