The King's Gambit is one of the main quests in Kingdom Come 2, which, although mostly devoid of action, is still full of tension. During the quest, you will play as both Henry and Godwin. On this guide page, we described how to get to a city council meeting, serve councilors as a waiter, convince the nobility to unite against King Sigismund, and serve King Sigismund.

How to get to the city council meeting?

The task begins by visiting Vavak, whom you have to blackmail to get you an entry to the city council meeting. By using persuasion (Speech, Dread - Hard), you can also extort 65 groschen from him. Vavak will arrange for you to attend the meeting as a waiter, but first you must obtain a costume and a license - you will get these from Frank Kuldaun at the Kuttenberg market, next to the tailor's stall. Convince him to give you the clothes (Might - Medium, Speech - Hard) or bribe him.

Put on the received waiter outfit and talk to the majordomo in the town hall nearby - choose one of the excuses why Frank is not able to work today. The majordomo will explain to you your duties - standing next to the wine table, pouring for the councilors only when they ask for it, under no circumstances pouring for sir Adam, doing everything the councilors ask you to do and not asking unnecessary questions or looking for excuses. When you are ready, talk to the majordomo.

How to serve councilors?

Spend the entire meeting standing next to the table with jugs, carefully listening to the councilors. Occasionally, one of the councilors will raise his hand and ask for wine - white Tokaji (silver jug) or red Monastery (brown jug). After lifting the appropriate jug, approach the councilor, hold down the answer key (Q on the keyboard) and press the same button to pour the wine. Pay attention to the councilor's name in the bottom right corner of the screen - if councilor Adam asks for wine, politely refuse. After pouring the wine, immediately go back to the table with the jugs. If you can't find the councilor who asked for wine, move along the tables holding the answer button until you get the option to pour wine.

You will be called upon twice and asked to perform a special task - agree without unnecessary questions. Bailiff Andreas asks you to bring him a large, silver goblet from the room next door (at the top of small stairs). Franz will ask you to bring him gloves from the chapel next door and count all the winged figures on the mural - do so, and tell him that you counted twenty-four figures. Eventually, the sequence will come to an end, and you will switch to Godwin.

How to convince the nobility to unite against Sigismund?

As Godwin, you can familiarize yourself with the people present at the meeting. You can drink or refuse - regardless of your decision, Godwin will still be drunk at the beginning of the next quest. Your main goal is to convince three noblemen to support Jobst's plan. You will have to perform a small task for each of them. They are Haman Alder, Botschek of Kunstadt, and Anna of Waldstein.

Haman Alder is sitting in the next room with Ruthard, and after a short conversation, it turns out he is Godwin's father. The argument that cannot be avoided will lead to a duel with your younger brother, Christopher. Christopher has a lot of health, but he is not a very dangerous opponent - parry his blows and attack him with fencing combinations, since he he cannot defend himself from them. Regardless of how the duel ends, Christopher will reconcile with Godwin and convince his father to support the cause.

Botschek of Kunstadt is sitting in the dining room on the first floor and agrees to help in exchange for finding a husband for his niece. You have to recommend Hans Capon as a potential partner. Next, go to the courtyard and let Hanush know about everything. Return to Botschek to officially form an alliance.

Anna of Waldstein is not marked on the map, but you will find her by the window in the ballroom on the second floor. He agrees to help in exchange for replacing Haman's documents with fakes. You will find Haman's bag in the stable in the courtyard - just watch out for the hired hand dressed in red, who is hanging around the stable. Return to Anna to form an alliance. After everything, return to John of Liechtenstein and give him the report.

How to serve King Sigismund?

After the cut-scene, you will once again go back to Henry - this time serving only King Sigismund. Immediately stand by the table with the jugs and don't look Markvart in the face - you don't want him to recognize you. You will have to pour Sigismund wine three times - listen to what Sigismund says, not Markvart.

  1. First, Markvart will order you to pour wine for Sigismund, and a moment later Sigismund will ask for red himself. Pour him red wine.
  2. A few minutes later, Sigismund will ask again for the Monastery wine. Pour him red wine.
  3. Markvart will eventually order you to pour red wine for Sigismund again, but Sigismund will instead ask for white. Pour him white wine.
  4. At the very end, Sigismund will ask you to have a drink with him. Agree and raise a toast.

After drinking with King Sigismund, the quest will end.
