Ghost of Yotei: Best armors
Armors are an essential part of Ghost of Yotei and can drastically affect your play style, giving you a specific set of important buffs. On this page of the guide, we have listed some of the best armors available in Ghost of Yotei and described their uses.
Throughout her journey, Atsu will acquire many different armors, each with a set of specific effects. While armor in Ghost of Yotei does not provide any stat bonuses (e.g. you still take the same amount of damage wearing a samurai armor as you would in traveling rags), their unique features can significantly shape your playstyle. On this guide page, we have listed some extremely useful armors in Ghost of Yotei, described their uses and where to find them.

Taro's Armor
Taro's Armor is likely the first new armor you will receive. It is a gift from Taro the Scavenger - you will receive it automatically during your first encounter with him. Taro is a merchant who has no fixed location and appears randomly. You will most often encounter him after destroying enemy garrisons or when setting up camp.
Taro's Armor is the best armor you can equip early in the game. Its effects are very simple, but extremely useful until you make more progress. These are:
- Increased spirit gain when the cooking bonus is active - since there is a lot of food in the game, you should make sure that the cooking bonus is always active. More spirit means more frequent access to healing and special attacks,
- Increased health - always a useful bonus,
- Reduced fire and ice damage - one of the first areas in the game, Ishikari Lowlands, is full of enemies wielding flaming weapons. Taro's Armor will make this entire area much easier. The armor is especially useful against archers, whose flaming arrows will barely scratch you.
Armor of the Undying
Armor of the Undying can be obtained through a special bounty hunter mission - you must find and kill an immortal samurai in the Ishikari Plain. This armor is focused entirely on melee combat.
Armor of the Undying's effects only work when you match your weapon to the opponent. Each of your melee weapons is effective against a different type of enemy - a katana counters swordsmen, two katanas counter spearmen, a yari counters sickles and daggers, and an odachi counters big warriors. Because this armor requires you to match weapons to enemies, it only reaches its full potential once you have acquired all the weapons. Its features are:
- Stunning enemies with a matching weapon restores your health - this trait makes you much more resilient in combat,
- Performing perfect parries and dodges with the right weapons is easier - perfect parries and dodges allow you to perform devastating counterattacks,
- Performing focused attacks with a matching weapon can increase the amount of stagger you inflict - focused attacks, performed by holding Triangle, are some of your most powerful moves, so it's worth performing them as often as possible.
Dragonfly Armor
You can obtain the Dragonfly Armor fairly early in the game. Head to the Huranui's Rest Inn, the main hub in the Tokachi Range region, and then speak with Ginji the Armorer. He'll instruct you to meet Daijiro, a local gambler pursued by creditors. Complete the series of quests he provides, and you'll be rewarded with the aforementioned armor.
The Dragonfly Armor is an ideal choice for those who prefer using a bow. The armor's distinctive features include:
- Increased range and damage when releasing an arrow at the moment the flash appears next to the weapon - this ability requires good timing, but with a little practice, it significantly increases the effectiveness of ranged attacks.
- Releasing a stronger arrow increases concentration - a useful bonus directly related to the previous ability.
- Increased arrow switching speed - a very useful ability that allows for much more efficient bow use.
