Ghost of Yotei: How to change appearance?
Ghost of Yotei includes a variety of armor and cosmetic items so that you can constantly change and customize Atsu's appearance. On this page of the guide we have described what options you have for changing your character's appearance and whether there is a transmog in the game.
Ghost of Yotei features numerous cosmetic items. During her adventure, Atsu can find a variety of outfits, masks, and headgear, allowing her to change her appearance, from simple robes to samurai armor. On this guide page, we've described the exact options you have for customizing her appearance and whether the game has transmog.
What cosmetic items are available?
Most of the loot found in Ghost of Yotei, aside from armor and new weapons, is purely cosmetic. The headgear, masks, and saddles found by Atsu have no effect on her stats; they only change her appearance. The only exception is the Kanemori's Two-Faced Mask, which increases damage dealt and received. It can be purchased from a vendor who may randomly appear in your camp. Other than this, no cosmetic item makes you stronger or weaker.
You can buy cosmetic items from vendors in exchange for flowers or find them in the game world. The same applies to colors for your outfits, equipment, and weapon kits. Their sole purpose is to customize Atsu's appearance to your liking.
Upgrading outfits changes their appearance, adding new elements such as capes or shoulder pads. However, you might not always like the new armor's appearance – in the armor color change screen, you can freely switch between the appearance of a given outfit at its different upgrade levels. This doesn't affect its stats; it merely allows you to choose your preferred appearance. Outfits often come with matching headgear and masks, and with each upgrade, you get their new versions. However, you don't have to wear them to receive the armor's effects.
Is there a transmog?
Transmog is a widely appreciated mechanic that allows you to change the appearance of one outfit to another. It allows you to have the stats of a given outfit while using the appearance of the one you prefer visually but is statistically inferior. Unfortunately, Ghost of Yotei doesn't have transmog – if a piece of armor suits your playstyle but you don't like its appearance, you can't change its appearance to a different armor. Your only options in this case are to forgo this armor or customize it with alternative colors, headgear, and masks.
