Ghost of Yotei: What does the weapon aligned mean?
The main character of Ghost of Yotei, Atsu, can equip as many as five types of white weapons. In turn, the effects of one of the best armors in the game are active only if the player uses the right weapon. On this page of the guide to Ghost of Yotei we explain what the right weapon means.
Unlike Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima, who used only a katana throughout the entire game, Atsu in Ghost of Yotei can wield five types of melee weapons. Each weapon is suitable for different situations and counters different enemies. One of the best armors in the game is based on the appropriate selection of weapons - the Armor of the Undying, obtained by defeating the Undying Samurai. On this page of the guide, we've described what the weapon aligned means.
What is the weapon aligned?
The effects of the Armor of the Undying are exceptionally useful, as it significantly increases both your defensive and offensive potential. When you wear this armor, you can heal by staggering enemies, your focused attacks charge the Stagger meter faster, and performing Perfect Parries and Perfect Dodges is much easier. These effects make you nearly unstoppable, but there's one catch - they only work when you're using the right weapon.
When using the Armor of the Undying, you must constantly switch your weapons so you can match them to those wielded by your opponents. Therefore, it reaches its full potential only after unlocking all weapon types in the game. This is what the phrase "weapon aligned" means – as long as you attack enemies with the optimal weapon, all armor effects are active, making you very powerful. If you attack an enemy with a weapon that doesn't counter them, the armor effects don't activate – you receive absolutely no bonuses from your armor, which drastically weakens you.
What is the right weapon for specific enemies?
Each weapon type in the game counters a specific enemy type. You can change weapons on the fly, even in the middle of a fight, and if you want to make good use of the Armor of the Undying, you will need to master this skill to perfection and observe what weapons your opponents are currently wielding. Available weapons include:
- Katana - available from the very beginning of the game. Suitable against enemies wielding swords.
- Dual Katana - obtained from Master Hanbei in the Yotei Grasslands region. Suitable against enemies wielding spears and other polearms.
- Yari - received from Master Takahashi in the Ishikari Plain region. Suitable against enemies wielding sickles, kusarigama, and knives.
- Odachi - received from Master Yoshida in the Tokachi Range region. Suitable against large enemies wielding massive weapons such as kanabo or odachi.
- Kusarigama - received from Master Enomoto in the Teshio Ridge region. Suitable against enemies equipped with a shield.
Use the appropriate weapons against the encountered opponents, and the Armor of the Undying will serve you well. Otherwise, the effects will be identical to playing without any armor.
