Ghost of Yotei: How to collect money and how to spend it?
Coins are the main currency in Ghost of Yotei. In this guide we have prepared tips on how to get rich quickly, as well as on what is the best way to spend the accumulated funds.
How to collect money and what to spend it on in Ghost of Yotei? This is an important topic, which we've covered comprehensively in our guide. You'll find clever ways to quickly get rich and acquire large amounts of gold. We also show you the best ways to spend your coins to make the game easier.
How to get money fast?
- The most obvious way to get rich is by completing bounty hunter missions. Kojiro, a Bounty Broker, can give you these missions. You can find him at every main inn, and next to him will be a board with current missions. In most cases, your task will be to track down and defeat a dangerous criminal or group of enemies. Depending on the mission, you may have to fight a mini-boss, or the game may allow you to defeat the target with a stealth attack.
- Most of the bounties on the board are worth around 750 mon. However, some of these missions may have an additional challenge in that you may be required to track down the target in a specific area. After completing several bounties in a given region, Kojiro may have a higher-paying special assignment for you. Additionally, bounty hunter quests allow you to obtain unique items from defeated enemies, including new armor models.
You don't have to start each quest by collecting it from the board. You can accidentally kill a given opponent while exploring the game world, and you won't lose the chance to claim the bounty. Return to Kojiro to collect the gold from him.
- An alternative way to acquire gold is the zeni hajiki gambling mini-game, which you can play by visiting any Gambling Den in the game world - the first one is next to a small lake in the southern part of the Yotei Grasslands region.
- Zeni hajiki is played for money - initial bets are quite low (e.g. 300 mon), but ultimately, you can bet up to 1000 mon. Remember, however, that this is gambling so you can lose coins. You can minimize this risk by "cheating the game" - namely, by creating a manual save. If you lose, return to the main menu and load a manual save from before you started the mini-game (don't load the autosave!).
The general rules of zeni hajiki and tips on how to win can be found on a separate page of this guide.
What should you buy?
- The most important purchase in the early game is buying 2 bows – we've covered this topic in more detail on the How to get a bow? page. As a reminder, you need to meet Ran the Bowyer, and you'll first encounter her at the Yotei's Shadow Inn in the first region of the world.
- It's crucial to unlock the Yumi Bow for 2000 mon. It's a very powerful and versatile weapon. This bow will allow you to take down distant targets (e.g. enemies in observation towers) and do ranged attacks while hiding.
- You should also spend coins on upgrading Atsu's equipment. A key character here is Ginji the Armorer, whom you'll encounter near every inn in the game world. You can order upgrades for your armor from him (except for the "starting" Onryo Armor, which gets upgraded as you progress through the story). Upgrades are quite expensive and require crafting materials, so upgrade the armor you're currently using first.
- You can also upgrade Atsu's ranged weapons, including the aforementioned bows. Here, available upgrades may include increasing damage and carrying more arrows. We recommend upgrading the Yumi Bow to the maximum level as soon as possible – you will have a greater chance of killing enemies instantly.
- We don't recommend spending gold on consumables, as these are quite common in the game world. You can make an exception for rarer crafting resources, as these may require a longer search.
Interestingly, you don't need to spend gold on melee weapon upgrades. Atsu can upgrade them herself by using the forge at her family home and spending crafting materials.
