Ghost of Yotei: How to reach the summit of Mount Yotei?

Where is the path to the peak of Mount Yotei? This guide will help you reach the unique, major location in Ghost of Yotei. Below, we’ve outlined the paths starting from the Mountain Trail and the Mount Yotei Shrine. By following these paths you can reach the duel against Takezo and complete certain optional activities.

Where is Mount Yotei?

1. Mount Yotei is a unique spot on the world map - Atsu can visit it, but only after meeting specific requirements.
2. The mountain lies west of the starting region, the Yotei Grasslands. It’s often visible on the horizon. The game lets you reach the summit, where you’ll discover a large crater.

Mountain Trail and Master Hanbei

1. There are two locations in the Yotei Grasslands region connected to Mount Yotei. The first is the Mountain Trail, located in the western part of the region. It’s just north of the (initially closed) gate to the Oshima Coast region.

1. When you arrive, you’ll see a narrow passage that can’t be accessed during normal exploration. Atsu can only use it at specific points in the main storyline.
2. The main reason to explore the Mountain Trail is to reach Master Hanbei’s hut near Mount Yotei. Visiting the hut also lets you unlock the Dual Katana as a new melee weapon for Atsu. Later in the story, you’ll meet the Dual Katana master again to plan your next steps.

Mount Yotei Shrine and exploring the summit

1. An even more important spot is the Mount Yotei Shrine, located in the northwestern part of the Yotei Grasslands. This mountain path leads towards Mount Yotei.
2. This passage is always open, so you can start the climb anytime and revisit Mount Yotei (though fast travel to the peak might not be available).

1. The climb is fairly long, requires using a grappling hook and jumping between ledges. At a certain point, Atsu will automatically transition from the Yotei Grasslands to near the mountain summit. A bit later you'll reach the top.

On Mount Yotei you can find:

1. A shrine with two Charms – they once belonged to Atsu’s parents; collecting them also grants a trophy (you need to bow before the altar);
2. The duel against Takezo – the game’s biggest optional challenge, although first you need to fight him in the Yotei Grasslands before he appears here;
3. Altar of Reflection – located in the center of the crater, it lets you unlock a single skill point;
4. Pillar of the Fallen – unlocks a new weapon kit for your weapon;
5. A grapple point - interacting with it lets you quickly descend the mountain and return to the Yotei Grasslands.
