Ghost of Yotei: How to get gifts from the altar?
Receiving gifts for Onryo is an optional activity in Ghost of Yotei. The description from our guide explains where the altars of gifts for Onryo are, as well as when you can receive gifts and what can be in them.
How do gifts work in Ghost of Yotei? In our guide, we've covered a returning mechanic from Ghost of Tsushima - collecting gifts left for the main character. We’ll show you where to find Onryo gift altars and highlight the most important gifts prepared for Atsu.
How do you unlock the Onryo gift altar?
- You won't start receiving gifts right away. Play through the main story until a gift notification pops up. Doing this for the first time triggers a tutorial on gift collecting.
- You'll be getting similar notifications later on, but they won't be pausing the game. Gifts don't disappear once they're left on the altar, so you can take your time. You’ll usually receive gifts after taking down a story boss, completing a quest or an optional activity.
- You can claim your gifts at any Onryo gift altar. You’ll find them at inns, taverns and other safe hubs.
- You can select the gift altar directly from the fast travel menu. It has its own icon, and the game will show you how many gifts are waiting for you. You can also find the altar yourself.
- NPCs may show up at the altar, but you won’t have to fight them to collect the gifts. They'll simply let you know you can claim them.
What gifts can you receive?
- New charms are the most valuable gift you can get. Once received, you can equip them in active slots to gain their passive stat bonuses.
- You’ll often receive money and rare crafting materials, perfect for improving Atsu’s gear.
- You’ll also get cosmetic rewards, such as weapon kits or headgear from defeated bosses. Cosmetic items only alter Atsu’s look; they don’t affect her stats.
- Besides gifts, you can also discover messages left for Atsu. These messages might be simple thank-yous for helping her or invitations to start a new quest.
