Ghost of Yotei: How to turn off puzzle hints and tutorials?
Atsu's automatic hints can destroy the satisfaction of solving puzzles in Ghost of Yotei. From the guide, you'll learn if you can turn off the hints for puzzles, as well as tutorials that remind you of the game's main mechanics.
In Ghost of Yotei, you may experience an irritating feature where the main character suggests solutions to puzzles. On this guide page, we answer the question of whether it's possible to completely disable hints, as well as how to limit the game showing tutorials related to combat, stealth, and exploration.
When do hints appear in puzzles?
- You won't encounter the "problem" of the game suggesting solutions to puzzles until you reach the Teshio Ridge region. The main character will then come into possession of The Nine Tails' Cipher - obtaining this important quest item is described on a separate page of the guide.
- As a reminder, the cipher is used to solve puzzles involving symbols and fox statues, and there are over 20 different ones to complete throughout the northern region. Atsu can comment on a puzzle after a you make a mistake, e.g. placing statues in the wrong positions or lighting the wrong lanterns. The protagonist's hints don't present a ready-made solution, but they can still detract from the enjoyment of reaching the correct solution on your own.
- Unfortunately, the developers didn't provide a way to completely disable hints - you won't find such a setting in the game options. The release patch 1.006 has reduced the frequency of hints. This is also partially dependent on the selected difficulty level - on higher levels, the game should offer hints less frequently.
How to limit tutorials?
- On-screen hints about key gameplay mechanics, such as landing and stopping attacks, regenerating health, navigating the game world, or avoiding detection by enemies, can also be irritating.
- In this case turn off the Training Reminders option in the Gameplay tab. As the name suggests, disabling it can limit repeated messages about the same actions, such as using a special attack.
- Installing patch 1.006 or later is also recommended. In this update, the developers have limited the frequency of tutorials in the first few minutes and hours of gameplay, allowing players to discover and test certain mechanics on their own.
You can also disable the birds that guide Atsu to nearby collectibles and activities (e.g. Altars of Reflection). However, we don't recommend disabling this option, as you could easily miss useful collectbles (e.g. locations where you can find charms).
