Ghost of Yotei: How to find the Undying Samurai?

The Undying Samurai is the target of one of the special bounties, which you can pick up from Kotaro after eliminating enough regular targets. He is hiding in the Ishikari Plain, and for eliminating him you will receive his powerful armor. Before you can face him, however, you must find him. On this guide page we described how to follow the wind chimes and find the Undying Samurai.

Where are the wind chimes?

After receiving the task to kill the Undying Samurai, you must go to the Ishikari Plain. Find Ugetsu's camp in the center of the region, where he will tell you the story of the Undying Samurai.

Right after the story and cut-scene, look straight ahead - directly in front of you is a tree with a bear standing under it. Shoot the bear with a bow and take the wind chime hanging on the tree. You need to use the chimes to find the Undying Samurai. After picking up a wind chime, equip it by swiping your finger upwards on the controller's touchpad. Keep rotating the camera until the wind speeds up and the blue ribbon on the chime starts spinning very fast. You must go straight in that direction to find the next wind chime - repeat this process until you find the Undying Samurai.

You will find the second wind chime at the top of the hill, under a large, crooked tree in the Nakagoya Springs.

The third chime is attached to a corpse hanging from a tree above a cliff on the eastern shore of Stone Jaw. You must pull the corpse down from the tree with the grappling hook and then climb down the cliff to pick up the wind chime.

You will find the last wind chime at the Rumoi River. It is carried by an enemy ronin - kill him and search the body.

Where is the Undying Samurai?

Following the last wind chime, you will reach a cliff on the western edge of the Ishikari Lowland. The further route is indicated by black samurai masks hanging on the walls and spears stuck in the ground. Follow their trail into the cave beneath the cliff. Inside the cave, you will have to jump on platforms and use the grappling hook to pull yourself towards branches.

The marked trail will take you to a small cave where you must hang all the wind chimes on wooden poles. In this way you will summon the Undying Samurai and fight him.

The Undying Samurai switches between sword and sword and shield stances during combat, so it is best to fight him with a single katana. He also occasionally sets the weapon on fire, so you'll want to have Taro's Armor to reduce fire damage. His most dangerous move is a three-hit combo - a red spinning slash, a blue spinning slash, and a red kick. For defeating him you will receive the Armor of the Undying, a very useful armor that gives significant bonuses when you correctly match your weapon to the enemy.
