Ghost of Yotei: Why is the passage unavailable?

Why does the game show a message about an unavailable passage? Our guide will help you solve a potential problem you may encounter several times throughout the game. We showed examples of blocked passages in Jigoku Fortress and Teshio Ridge (a frozen waterfall next to the mountain path). You'll also find general tips on dealing with these types of blockades.

Unavailable passage in Jigoku Fortress

1. Some of the passages display a message saying that they are unavailable when you get close to them - an example of one of them is shown in the attached image. This one is next to Jigoku Fortress in the Ishikari Plain region.
2. Initially, you can't use the grappling hook here, despite the clearly visible grapple point.

1. The solution to this particular problem is to find the ronin Shiro nearby. You can start a related optional quest, which involves infiltrating the fortress and stealing its treasures.

1. After returning to the same location with Shiro, the spot for the grappling hook will be accessible – use the grappling hook on it, rip off a few planks, and squeeze through the narrow passage.

Unavailable passage by the waterfall in the Teshio Ridge

1. A similar blockade is located next to the frozen waterfall in the southern part of the Teshio Ridge region - it is not far from the place where you began exploring this area after your first encounter with Kitsune.

1. In this case, the passage will become accessible as you continue the main storyline. Towards the end of the story in the Teshio Ridge, you'll be chasing Kitsune. Atsu will arrive here with Oyuki, and together they will unlock the passage, granting you access to Kitsune's hideout.
2. In summary, the information about the unavailable passage is an artificial blockade. The same applies to locations locked during free exploration, such as Ishikari Castle. The solution is always very similar - start the quest associated with that passage. Don't try to forcefully destroy the blockade; instead, wait patiently until you return to the location during a main or side quest.
