Ghost of Yotei: How does gambling and zeni hajiki work?
One of the main ways to earn money in Ghost of Yotei will turn out to be zeni hajiki - a game available in gambling houses scattered around the world. On this page of the guide we have described what zeni hajiki is all about and how to win.
Money in Ghost of Yotei is a key, yet uncommon resource. Your best source of income will be wanted posters, but when they run out, you'll have to find another way to make money. One such method is the gambling game zeni hajiki. On this guide page we have described what zeni hajiki is and how to play it effectively.
Where to play zeni hajiki?
Zeni hajiki is only available in specific locations on the map. Typically, each region has one place to play zeni hajiki - this will be a gambling house or an inn. The later the region is unlocked, the higher the stakes you will be able to play for. Locations where you can play may also be initially inaccessible and require completing a short side quest. The first available gambling house is located in the very south of the Yotei Grasslands region, close to the sea. In each region, if you play zeni hajiki long enough, your opponent will eventually bet a unique amulet instead of money.
How to play zeni hajiki?
The rules of zeni hajiki are quite simple. The game takes place on a round table covered with coins and obstacles. Zeni hajiki is divided into turns - Atsu always plays first. At the beginning of your turn, you must choose one of the coins and flick it towards another coin. If you hit, you take back the coin you just hit and your turn continues - you must then flick the coin you just hit. Your turn ends if:
- you didn't hit any coin,
- you hit more than one coin - you do not receive any of the hit coins,
- you knocked a coin off the table - your opponent takes all the coins you knocked down.
The first player to collect six coins wins.
At the beginning of your turn, you can carefully examine the table and choose your first coin. Then use the left analog stick to determine the direction you want to flick the coin. The force of the flick is determined by pressing and releasing R2 - the more you press the trigger, the harder Atsu will flick the coin. Be careful not to let the coin you hit fall off the table or hit another coin - flick at the right angle and with the right force.
Before each game of zeni hajiki, we recommend saving your game. The opponents are very skilled and can end the game in a single turn - if you want to win, you can't let them get a turn, so you have to play perfectly. It only takes one mistake to lose a turn and the entire game.
At the beginning of your turn, carefully examine the table to find a potential sequence of coins you can collect in one turn. Look for coins that are relatively close together, not separated by obstacles. If the coin is not close to the edge of the table, it is usually better to flick harder than weaker - otherwise you risk the flicked coin not reaching the target, thus making it easier for your opponent to take their turn.
You will often encounter situations where three coins are placed very close to each other. In such a situation, it is best to start by flicking the one in the middle. Flick the middle coin to send it towards one of the surrounding coins, then flick the third coin. This way you don't risk hitting two coins with one flick.
