Follow the wind and the golden bird
Like Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yotei does not feature indicators showing you where to go. The direction of your chosen destination, whether it is a mission objective or a destination marked on the map, is indicated by gusts of wind. You can summon wind by swiping up on the controller's touchpad - by following it you will find what you are looking for. Also, as you travel, keep an eye out for the golden bird that occasionally swoops down from the sky and hovers just above Atsu. It appears when you are close to an important place, such as hot springs or Bamboo Strikes. Follow the bird to discover a location you haven't seen on the map yet.
Bounty hunter missions are the best way to earn money
Upgrading equipment and purchasing maps pointing out important places will quickly prove very expensive. By far the best way to make money is completing bounty hunter missions. In each main base of the region you will find a wanted poster board where you can accept such tasks. Eliminate targets to receive substantial rewards and unlock special targets that, when killed, reward you with unique equipment.
In our guide you will find a list of all the places where you can get orders and find targets.
Collect everything you see
Every resource you encounter in Ghost of Yotei has a purpose - some are unique currencies, others can be used for cooking, and still others are used to upgrade equipment. Raw materials can be quickly and efficiently picked up from the ground with a single press of R2. So, keep an eye out for shiny objects as you travel and pick up anything you see. Also remember to search the bodies of dead enemies - if they have any items, golden lights will float above them. Our interactive map can help you in exploring the game world.
Set up camp and eat often
You can set up camp almost anywhere, except for when you are in settlements and similar locations. Setting up camp is free and fully restores your spirit. While camping, you can change the time of day, craft ammunition, and meet adventurers and wandering traders who will join you at the campfire. The most important activity, however, is cooking - it will give you a temporary extra spirit point and a random bonus (small if you cooked mushrooms, large if you cooked fish). As long as you collect all the items you come across along the way, you should always have food to cook, so cook whenever your previous food bonus runs out.
Unlock new weapons as soon as possible
In each new region you will find a mission that, when completed, will unlock a new type of weapon. These should be your priority - the different weapon types are the equivalent of the stances in Ghost of Tsushima. Each weapon type is highly effective against a specific type of enemy that is dominant in a given region - for example, in the first region you can learn the dual sword style, which effectively counters the enemy spearmen often encountered in that region. Unlock new weapons as soon as possible to gain an advantage against your enemies.
Help people you pass by
Occasionally, as you explore the game world, you may encounter random events. These are often passers-by and civilians who need your help. You should help them - they will reward you with money, resources or information, thanks to which an important place will be marked on your map.
Throw weapons
Sometimes enemies you kill may drop their weapons. A dropped weapon glows blue. If you approach it, you can pick it up and immediately throw it at the nearest enemy by pressing Square button. A thrown weapon can stagger or instantly kill the enemy - do this as often as possible to thin out crowds.
Don't buy skills that require spirit right away
The skill points Atsu earns can be spent on many useful upgrades. Some of them are powerful special attacks that require spirit to use. At the beginning of the game, it is best to ignore them - although they are very useful, at the beginning of the adventure you have very little spirit, which is necessary for healing. So spend your first skill points on other upgrades, and come back to these skills once you have gained more spirit.
Always be stocked with alcohol
Sake is a very useful item that Atsu can drink in the middle of a fight. Drinking sake instantly restores a few points of spirit and allows you to throw the empty bottle at your opponent. Spirit is your main method of healing, so in an emergency, sake can save your life.
You can enable lock-on in the settings
By default, the game has lock-on disabled When attacking enemies, you must move the left analog stick to attack the correct opponent. However, in the game settings there is an option to enable enemy targeting - Atsu will automatically direct her attacks towards the targeted enemy. This feature can be very useful, but be careful - it's assigned to the same button as the scope, so occasionally during combat Atsu may pull out the scope, making her vulnerable to enemy attacks.
