The Hacker 2.0
Strategy
January 12, 2017
The Hacker 2.0 is a sequel to the 2012 The Hacker. Both games were developed by Angry Bugs. The game takes place in a not so distant future and has a retro-futuristic feel to it, inspired by the 80’s film and book representation of cyberpunk. We play as a hacker who has to break into well-protected computer systems in order to gather top secret data and sabotage them. The game has two primary aspects of gameplay. Missions themselves are presented in the form of a turn-based tactical game. The virtual reality, around which our avatar moves, and the models of the security software intended to stop us are observed from an isometric point of view. We use various offensive, defensive, and special abilities when facing that software. We spend the time between our missions in front of a virtual desktop. The screen of our device serves as a monitor of our in-game computer with its simple operating system, icons, and useful apps. We use them to contact our clients, start missions, gather useful data, manage our income, and to invest and buy better software and hardware.
Siegecraft Commander
Strategy
January 17, 2017
A warfare-oriented strategy created by Blowfish Studios, notable for the warmly-received Gunscape. Siegecraft Commander takes us to a fantasy universe, fought iver by Knights of Freemoi and tribes of Lizardmen. The game offers a single player campaign, allowing the player to control both factions. In this case, the game is similar to a traditional real-time strategy. For a change, the multiplayer mode allows us to choose between real-time gameplay and a turn-based one. The battles were inspired by tower defense genre, with the players conquering more and more territory until they clash. There is a catch, though – each tower has to have a direct link to the center, and if the chain is broken, every subsequent link is destroyed. In order to win, every player has to build complicated installations, able to sustain heavy losses and remain functional. Siegecraft Commander employs a light-hearted, slightly cartoonish visual style.

Depending on our strategy, the game has us take part in turn-based fights in space or on planets’ surfaces, in which entire armadas of ships as well as infantry, vehicles, and mechs can participate.

In Urban Empire, we control an entire family from which the subsequent mayors of the city originate, and our tasks include developing the infrastructure and new districts, driving the economic growth, and ensuring our citizens’ satisfaction. The gameplay is richer thanks to the fact that, as decades pass, both the technology and the geopolitical situation change, constantly providing us with new challenges. Another interesting feature is the “unofficial” part of being a mayor — we can resort to various political and personal games as well as corrupting and blackmailing unfriendly persons.

Pokemon Duel
Strategy
January 24, 2017
A mobile battle strategy developed by HEROZ. The main hero is an aspiring Pokémon trainer who takes part in a tournament on Carmonte Island. The winner will receive the deed to a luxury hotel – the Jewel Tower. As the hero desires to become a hotel industry magnate, the prize is a real treat for him. The mechanics of Pokémon Duel are based on the simplified rules of a collectible miniatures game Pokémon Trading Figure Game, so gameplay comes down to fighting turn-based battles of Pokémon figures. The arenas have a net showing predefined paths between teams of up to six Pokémon. In order to succeed, you need to lead at least one creature to the starting position of the opponent. You can choose from the entire set of sixth generation Pokémon – even though you begin with just a few basic beasts, with progress you get access to more powerful ones. The Horus Heresy: Battle of Tallarn
Strategy
February 8, 2017
The Horus Heresy: Battle of Tallarn is a turn-based strategy set in the Warhammer 40.000 universe. It was developed by HexWar. The game begins after the Iron Warriors bomb Tallran, which leads to the planet becoming a barren wasteland. Those who survived by hiding in the underground hideouts join their forces and call all the tank legions - from Leman Russ to Baneblade - for help. Gameplay in The Horus Heresy: Battle of Tallarn is based on the classic rules of turn-based strategies. Key to victory lies in thought-out placement of our units and in taking advantage of their assets. The game consists of three campaigns (Apocalypse, Resurrection, Revenge). Each of them offers six missions. Battle of Tallarn also offers a tutorial for players not acquainted with the genre. The Horus Heresy: Battle of Tallarn features rather simple visuals, but the 66 available units where designed with high attention to detail.
Battle Islands: Commanders
Strategy
February 14, 2017
A simplistic RTS game focusing on quick multiplayer duels and employing free-to-play business model. Battle Islands: Commanders was created by the experienced DR Studios, and the game extends the formula of 2013's Battle Islands. The game simplifies the traditional RTS mechanics, but supplementing them with elements borrowed from card games and tower defense titles. Each duel is fought using the cards one has in their deck, which can be modified to one's liking. New cards can be found in chests received for victories. Cards of the same kind can be combined together to improve the firepower and durability of one's tanks and other units. Contrary to the classic RTS games, the player cannot control particular units manually - the player only chooses when and where to place a unit and the rest is done automatically, as the subordinates simply join the battle. Placing various units on the battlefield should be done with caution however, as sending a tank to a zone where the enemy has already placed a soldier with a rocket launcher will have catastrophic consequences.
Dropzone
Strategy
February 15, 2017
An online science fiction strategy game by Sparkypants Studios, combining elements of a classical RTS with elements of modern MOBA productions. The action of Dropzone is set in times when humanity’s future is dependent on the mysterious energy source called the Core, and the only place where it can be found is Europa, one of the Jupiter’s moons. The problem is that the place is also a target for the alien race of Kavash. While playing, we control powerful battle mechs and our goal is to defeat the aliens as well as gather the necessary energy. The gameplay is similar to that of classic RTS productions but the developers completely dropped the base building element, focusing solely on tactical battles between two three-member teams. Skirmishes take place on small maps and usually last about 15 minutes. Both teams have to defeat their opponents and take control of the Core located in the middle of the map.

The gameplay focuses mostly on managing the country in all the key fields and requires making many strategic and political decisions, which have huge consequences. You have to take care of such things as e.g. internal policy, diplomacy, economics, armed conflicts or espionage. The game emphasizes both the bright and the dark side of power, allowing you to choose your own path of achieving your goals and to decide between doing the right thing and using morally dubious methods.

Syrian Warfare
Strategy
February 21, 2017
A tactical real-time strategy, taking place during the civil war in modern Syria. The game skips some of the typical RTS elements, such as resource gathering and base development. Instead, the main emphasis was placed on tactical maneuvers of land and air forces – including building assaults, using smoke grenades, air drops, air strikes, etc. Before each mission, we need to choose adequate units, with only occasional support from allied units during the mission. Your units stay with you throughout the missions, gathering battle experience. The game incorporates a very realistic unit damage model – instead of energy bars, the level of damage is reflected by the appearance of our units. Syrian Warfare focuses solely on the single player campaign. The game is seen from the usual isometric view, with full 3D visuals.
RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch
Strategy
February 23, 2017
A mobile installment of the popular economy simulation strategy game series in which we manage our own theme park. RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch was developed by the creators of RollerCoaster Tycoon World for PC: Nvizzio Creations. In RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch, we traditionally assume the role of a newly-opened theme park’s manager and have to transform it into a grand amusement park that attracts crowds of visitors. This goal can be achieved by constructing new attractions, stores, restaurants, decorations, and other buildings that satisfy our guests’ needs. Moreover, we have to handle the purely business aspect that requires us to increase income and cut costs. In the game, the key role is played by the eponymous rollercoasters, the series’ hallmark. We can create them by using a simple touch system — by moving our finger across the screen, we draw their shape, and then choose materials for constructing each of their fragments. The production offers highly-detailed three-dimensional graphics.
Crusader Kings II: Monks and Mystics
Strategy
March 7, 2017
A DLC for Crusader Kings II, developed by Paradox Interactive – a studio known from many successful strategy games, including Stellaris or Hearts of Iron IV. The add-on focuses on religious organizations, including public ones, as well as secret cults that hide from the rest of the society. As the time goes, certain groups can rise to prominence, achieving more influence. Characters can join each organization, and attempt to climb higher in its hierarchy, which results in additional actions, abilities and chains of events. Monks and Mystics also introduces an ability to hunt heretics, or to send an archeological expedition in search of treasure and holy relics.
Faeria
Strategy
March 8, 2017
A card game with turn-based strategy elements that uses free-to-play distribution model with microtransactions. Faeria invites the players into an old fantasy world, home to humans as well as other intelligent species. The game puts emphasis on the lore and contains much additional information about the fictional universe. As for the gameplay, Faeria represents an unorthodox approach to the card game genre. Duels between two players are the foundation of the game. The fights are waged by using cards drawn from users’ personal decks. The warriors must also gather resources and use them in the duels. The cards represent heroes, effects and spells, but they cannot be played freely. Instead they have to be used on special, hexagon fields. Empty at first, the map becomes filled with hexes due to the player’s actions, and various terrain types affect the behavior of units and spells. Another innovation in the game is the necessity for characters to find themselves on adjacent fields in order to start the battle. It is worth adding that Faeria also allows the owners of various gaming platforms to face each other.

Strategy
March 13, 2017
A simple economic strategy game by NimbleBit, developed for mobile devices. The game starts in an empty area, where you have to build a prosperous metropolis from scratch. There are three main districts of the city: residential, service, and business. In each of them, you build unique buildings, which can be further developed. Moreover, you have to ensure the city is sufficiently busy by buying cars, ships, and planes. As the game progresses, you earn more money, which allows you to expand and upgrade your city. After completing all the goals in a given mission, you progress to the next map to start over. Bit City features pleasant mechanics and attractive 3D visuals. The game utilizes a free-to-play model with microtransactions, but it is possible to play without spending any real-life money, although it requires much patience.
Codex of Victory
Strategy
March 16, 2017
Codex of Victory is a science fiction strategy game that takes place in the far future. It was developed by the Russian studio Ino-Co. Mankind has managed to populate over twenty planets, but the civilization's social structure reversed to that from the feudal times. Each territory is ruled by lords and barons, and the entire empire is controlled by the absolute ruler. The country is at war with the faction called Auguments, genetically modified humans who conquer more and more of its territories and augment people who live there. Plot is the crucial element of gameplay in Codex of Victory. Missions focus on the real-time improvement and extension of our underground base, on managing our resources, conducting technological research, construction of war machines, and on fighting with our enemies' forces. Combat is turn-based and takes place on maps made of hexagonal tiles. What is interesting is the fact that missions are generated procedurally, making each playthrough a unique experience. The game offers a PvP multiplayer mode and features characteristic cartoonish visuals.

March 23, 2017
An innovative turn-based strategy developed by Every Single Soldier and Retro Epic Software as a direct continuation to Vietnam ’65. Afghanistan ’11 offers the ability to take part in numerous famed events from the history of the conflict. We take control of the coalition forces that focus on arming and training the Afghan security forces, as well as support of the local communities through taking care of crucial infrastructure, building water intakes, or distributing humanitarian aid. New Frontier Days: Founding Pioneers
Strategy
March 23, 2017
A simple strategy game developed by Arc System Works. In the game, the player gets to control a group of pioneers with the task to establish a flourishing settlement and tend to the settlers’ needs. As the game begins, the player has at his disposal only one building and several servants, who have to be assigned particular jobs, like gathering resources, in order to expand the settlement. Further on the list of available structures, one can find production structures (mills, farms, factories), and utility buildings, which, among others, increase the population limits. Settlers can also domesticate animals, which in turn support our pioneers in hunting and transportation, serving, for example, as faithful steeds. As the game progresses, the player receives so-called Invention Cards, which allow them to modify given gameplay aspects, such as harvesting speed. New Frontier Days: Founding Pioneers offers three diverse game modes – Story Mode, Survival Mode, and Free Mode. The entire experience delivers eye-pleasing visuals, featuring a cartoonish style.
Battle Brothers
Strategy
March 24, 2017
A combination of a turn-based strategy and an RPG, developed by Overhype Studios. Battle Brothers takes the player to a medieval-like low-fantasy world, where they become a leader of a mercenary band. The player can have up to 12 fighters under their command, and each of them has a portrait, name and a backstory, apart from a set of features that affect their stats and capabilities on the battlefield. The game does not make use of character classes, thus the player can assign weapons bought or taken from the enemies without any restrictions. The basic weaponry includes a set of medieval tools, such as swords, spears, axes, bows or crossbows. Different kinds of weapons offer interesting special attacks - for instance, axes can break shields; maces on the other hand, can stun the enemy so they lose their next turn. On their path, both when completing assignments and exploring the world, the player encounters various enemies, fighting ordinary bandits, hostile mercenaries, forest creatures, tribes of orcs and goblins, as well as the undead and terrifying ghosts. If the player manages to survive for long enough, they are faced with one of the ending crises. Those include an invasion of orcs and goblins, a plague of the undead, and a war between the local noble families.
Domina
Strategy
April 3, 2017
An economic strategy developed by the independent team at DolphinBarn studio. The players' task is to manage a gladiator school during the golden age of Roman Empire. They buy new warriors, prepare their training, and provide them with proper equipment (weapons, armor) to finally put them on the arena. Fighters can use various fighting styles, so it is possible to create specialized gladiators. Finding the balance between expenses and earnings is the key to success, and taking advantage of a political situation and sympathy of influential people helps as well. Domina offers various types of battles – some based on fair duels, others made to hinder our warriors as much as possible. All of this is presented with pixel-art visuals, complemented by a fitting soundtrack.
Stellaris: Utopia
Strategy
April 6, 2017
A standalone expansion for Stellaris – a 4X strategy game developed by Paradox Interactive. The Utopia expansion introduces an array of innovations and improvements, the first and foremost being an option of building so-called megastructures. This enigmatic name stands for giant, ring-shaped artificial worlds or even ones resembling a Dyson sphere, i.e. massive construction that completely encompasses a star and efficiently consumes all the energy emitted by it. Apart from that, you can also create new habitats in the form of large space stations, which offer more living space for your community. Stellaris: Utopia also brings along the system of traditions. Adopting new civilization ideas and gathering so-called Unity points helps you expand your empire and grants active bonuses to its development. The add-on also introduces an enhanced diplomacy interface as well as a myriad of new historical events and choices that influence the course of the game.

The hypothetical scenarios offer the ability to rescue Bismarck from the British forces, or lead German navy reinforced by Plan Z. When it comes to units, we are left with fifty new tokens including a hydroplane tender. The combat system was updated with new naval-oriented mechanics – an evasion bonus for mobile vessels, reduced detection of submarine units, or two weapon systems for battleships.
