The games can take the form of either classic MOBA team PvP fights or a dedicated co-op campaign for 5 players, for which an expansive storyline has been prepared.

Even though the battlefields are mostly filled with hordes of minor adversaries, the player is bound to encounter bosses much more powerful than the rest of the enemies. Hellgate VR has been designed exclusively for Virtual Reality headgear - during the game, one can freely move around the environment and look around by moving their head. The game has been based on Unreal Engine 4, which allowed the developers to deliver high-quality visuals. Moreover, the grim atmosphere of the game is well-complemented with poor lighting and dark colors of the visited locations.
